The Gemini app is an AI assistant. If you opt in to the Gemini app, it will replace your Google Assistant as the primary assistant on the phone. Some Google Assistant voice features aren't available through the Gemini app yet. You can switch back to Google Assistant in settings.
The Gemini app is available only on Android phones with 2 GB of RAM or more, running Android 10 and up.
This official app is free of charge. Gemini gives you direct access to Google’s best family of AI models on your phone so you can:
- Get help with writing, brainstorming, learning, and more
- Summarise and find quick info from Gmail or Google Drive
- Use text, voice, photos and your camera to get help in new ways
- Say “Hey Google” to ask Gemini for help with what’s on your phone screen
- Make plans with Google Maps and Google Flights
If you have access to Gemini Advanced it will be right here in the Gemini app.

As an assistant, Gemini shines in almost every area. It does everything Assistant achieved with just a little bit extra. As an AI, it feels half baked and still in its infancy. What sucks is having to pay to access premium features, which should have been included in the base version. I'll be convinced once there's one version, with all features, that's free.

There are still a few glitches, which are to be expected. Overall, it's helped me save hours of time just searching the entire internet and sifting through each useless SPONSORED thing that is always a waste of time. I get quick, accurate, and precise highlights that enable me to dig deeper into the areas I want more in-depth information on. I can simply zoom into the portion of the information I'm looking for and ask Gemini for more details on that alone. I LOVE IT!

Needs to be usable parallel to the assistant, or offer deeper integration. I use the assistant for many things, but Gemini is unable to interact with virtually any services. I understand the safety concerns, but I should still be able to use the assistant for my other services. Additionally, Gemini has seemed inferior to ChatGPT in my experience. I wish they would improve. *EDIT* Thanks for the response. I see many new features have been added. I will re-evaluate.
