5 Sam and the Snowman/To the North Pole
12/7/13
Sam learns to skate with the help of a snowman. Stella wants Sam to go skating with her. Instead of admitting he’s afraid of slipping on the ice, Sam says he has to sit with Fred and keep him company. Stella proposes making a snowman that can doggy-sit for them. Stella and Sam bring the snowman to life through make-believe play. After sharing some wintertime fun, the snowman asks if he can slide on the ice with them. Sam puts on his skates to help Stella push the snowman around on a toboggan. Having someone to lean on, keeps Sam steady on the ice./A heavy snowfall creates a winter wonderland for Stella and Sam to explore. Stella and Sam wake to a winter wonderland of fresh, deep snow. Heightening the sense of excitement, Stella proposes an expedition to the North Pole. As they embark on their journey they’re joined by Owen, who’s eager to travel by dogsled. However, Fred isn’t husky enough to haul anything, so Stella ends up pulling the toboggan. Their encounters with Arctic wildlife include a baby polar bear the size of Fred. He goes to the top of the world with them and then crowds onto the toboggan for the fast-flying trip back home.
