Principles of design: Scale This represents scale because this image shows how big whales are compared to a tiny person kayaking.

The fisherman is small scale and the fish is large scale. Every fisherman hopes to catch a big fish. The fish give the image a feeling of a large ocean with a large fish. The fisherman also creates the feeling of being far above the fish.

The artist uses scale through showing the viewer a known small animal, like a chick, as significantly larger especially when compared to the man. The artist takes something the viewer knows and makes it unfamiliar.
