Kniphofia uvaria originates from the Cape Province of South Africa and has been introduced into many parts of the world. It is also known as Tritoma or Red Hot Poker due to the shape and color of its inflorescence which can grow up to 1.52 m in height. There are many varieties of torch lily, and the flowers are red, orange, and yellow. This picture was taken at Ooty Flower Show 2013.

Torch lily are ground hardy in U.S.D.A. hardiness zones 7–10, but are planted in cooler climates to zone 5, where they should be lifted in autumn and stored indoors until replanting in mid-spring. They are distinctive, grow 4 ft. (1.2 m) tall, and are best used as a striking feature in the summer landscape, planted in one or more groups in borders or islands away from other tall flowers.
