Welcome to The Primitive Plate Rack... You are viewing our Cottage Style hanging Plate Rack. Taken from a plate rack design we found in a circa 1848 artist's house near the village of Tannersville, New York. Typical of the 'Cottage Style' furniture so common throughout most of the 19th century. This type of rack was used throughout the 18th and nineteenth centuries in England and the United States. Please note the lower shelf is open for stacks of plates & pitchers, or anything you desire. Standardly available in our 'Two Color' finish. Please indicate your secondary color choice { the color you want for the shelves} in the 'note to seller' at checkout. If you prefer this rack all one color, just write -- All one color. As you can see in the images, it can easily be placed upside down on a table, counter or the floor. The approximate measurements are as follows: Height - 27" Width - 28" Depth - 11" Pictured in Sage and Cream. We have been reproducing plate racks since 1993, increasing our styles and offerings, but never changing our methods. We build our racks just like they did 200 years ago - to be used on a daily basis, laden with dishes and such. 1. We install an integral hanging brace at the back of the plate rack under the top shelf. 2. All of our shelves are cut in, not tacked to the side panels, which in essence, makes the rack a solid crate. The combination of these two details allow for weight disbursement and stability even if the rack is hung unevenly. Ensuring longevity and dependability; just like the ones made so many years ago. **Commitment Statement** We also strive to produce a truly primitive 'Authentic' looking rendering. We hand pick all our wood for character and stability and take great care in our distressing/antiquing process so that our pieces turn out exactly as planned are aesthetically 'Primitive'. This means they resemble original antique pieces - time worn. There may be surface blemishes, knots, paint worn down to show the grain of the wood, etc. Our pieces do not look like 'New'; like furniture you see at Ikea, Wayfair or Bombay. We care a great deal about what we make and how we make it, whether it is a custom order or not. And most importantly, you may rest assured that all our offerings are structurally sound and sturdy - made to be used and enjoyed. All of our offerings are hand made and finished at our home in the Catskill Mountains. Our pieces are all taken from Early American originals. We make our pieces to be used and to last for generations. The paint colors are original to the period. Each piece is finished with a seven phase oil rubbing to insure a durable luster that will last for many, many years. Every piece is hand made and finished, therefore, no two will be precisely the same. ** LAYAWAY** We now offer layaway as a payment option for this item.
