The mechanism behind how the ring works is simply bending it open and shut. Use a 'twisting' or rotating motion [tutorial instructions included with purchase] rather than 'pulling' the two ends away from each other. The twisting motion allows the two ends to be bent away from each other with the ends going in a 'north to south' direction rather than an 'east to west' direction. The 'north to south' direction lets the ring keep its overall integrity and keeps the shape intact. The opposite end of the ring has been smoothed for easy placement and is secure enough to stay in place. As the wire gets thicker, the diameter will naturally become larger, which is more accommodating for easier bending as well.
