- "One of his former assistants came to confront him. In the name of the First Order."
"For what?"
"For contributing to the corruption of Batuu. He was convinced that killing Dok would somehow put an end to it. He was going to shoot him but lost his nerve. Dok fought back, but Calin caught him off guard. He shoved Dok in there and took off." - ―Julen Rakab and Izal Garsea, about Calin
Calin was a worker employed by the Ithorian collector Dok-Ondar as an assistant in his antiquities store on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. He became acquainted with two of the store's other employees, the farmer Julen Rakab and the human Tap. Around 34 ABY, Calin quit his job and attacked his boss out of loyalty to the First Order, locking the Ithorian in the establishment's safe.
Calin fled the store and later participated in a riot in Batuu's Black Spire Outpost, attempting to convince Batuuans to welcome the First Order's control. That day, Rakab and his companion Izal Garsea rescued Dok-Ondar from the locked room. The Ithorian furiously denounced Calin as a traitor and explained how his former apprentice had trapped him.
Biography[]
Shop assistant[]
- "What's Dok want?"
"A couple of the runners didn't show up this morning, and he lost another apprentice to the white masks." - ―Julen Rakab and and Tap, about Calin and his colleague
By the time of the war between the First Order and the Resistance, Calin lived as an orphan on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. He searched for work in Batuu's Black Spire Outpost settlement, eventually landing in the employ of the Ithorian collector Dok-Ondar as an assistant in his antiquities store. While there, his duties included delivering packages and managing the storefront. At some point, Calin made the acquaintance of the farmer Julen Rakab and the human Tap, two of his colleagues. Over time, he worked his way up to the position of Dok-Ondar's apprentice.[1]
At some point, members of the First Order recruited Calin to their cause, and he expressed his loyalty toward them.[1] In 34 ABY,[2] Calin's boss told him to collect debts from two smugglers who owed their shop money but had fled, fearing Batuu's First Order presence. Calin and another runner refused the task, quitting their jobs to continue supporting the First Order. Needing his deliveries carried on time, Dok-Ondar told Tap to request Rakab's assistance. The farmer was surprised that one of the shop's runners would leave, knowing that most employees enjoyed working amongst the unique antiquities.[1]
As soon as Tap left the shop, Calin attacked Dok-Ondar to show his devotion to the First Order's ideals, which he believed his former employer to be disrupting. During their struggle, they knocked over a metal goddess statue. The pair briefly wrestled until Calin overpowered Dok-Ondar. Although the assistant had intended to kill him with a weapon, he panicked and chose to lock the Ithorian in the store's safe. Calin fled the shop, escaping narrowly before Tap and Rakab's return.[1]
Outpost blockade[]
- "Give yourself to the First Order! Restore the rule of law across the galaxy!"
- ―Calin and his colleague during a Black Spire Outpost riot
Later that day, Calin and his colleague participated in a riot in Black Spire Outpost. Rakab and his companion, the smuggler Izal Garsea, saw Calin in the crowd and noticed how fervent he was about his beliefs. Calin stood in a small crowd of individuals and attempted to convince Batuuan natives that debauchery had overrun their world, so they should accept the rule of the First Order.[1]
After finishing their errand, Rakab and Garsea returned to Dok-Ondar's shop and noticed the Ithorian had yet to return, which was unusual for him. The farmer's investigations made him suspicious of the overturned metal statue in the store, knowing that Dok-Ondar preferred to keep his establishment tidy. Eventually, they found the collector trapped in the locked safe room at the back of the establishment. Dok-Ondar swore Calin out as a traitor, insisting Calin overpowered his attempt to fight back. Rakab translated the Ithorian's explanation of the event for Garsea, noting that the former assistant had been part of the street blockade earlier that day.[1]
Personality and traits[]
For some time, Calin was content to work as Dok-Ondar's employee and rose to become one of his apprentices. However, he eventually grew to disdain his boss and quit his job. Although he originally intended to shoot the Ithorian, he got nervous and decided to flee. By this point, Calin sincerely believed that the First Order's rule of the galaxy was the only way for order and justice to return to Batuu. While at a rally in Black Spire Outpost, he snarled at those who disagreed with him, eyes narrowed with certainty.[1]
Equipment[]
While on Batuu, Calin owned a weapon he almost used to shoot Dok-Ondar before deciding against it. He wore simple farmer's clothing.[1]
