"We wanted it because it could hold up against a siege, give us a place to stage hit-and-run attacks from. So what are the Imps going to get from an old megafacility that they can't find anywhere else?"
"It's a deep core drilling site."
Carver and Junior[1]

The Core Nine mining megafacility, or simply Core Nine, was a large, dome-topped, cylinder-shaped deep core drilling site used during the heavy excavating of the Scar of Troithe, a continent on the planet Troithe.[1] Around 5 ABY,[2] Core Nine was the only mining facility remaining. A remnant of the New Republic's 61st Mobile Infantry sought to use the facility as a base of operations to make hit and run attacks against the Galactic Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing, which had scattered their company. The fighter wing's commanding officer Colonel Soran Keize learned of Core Nine when studying the remnant's possible destinations and had his forces take control of it. Subsequently, the 61st remnant launched an attack on the 204th at the facility. The fighter wing ultimately fled aboard Core Nine's sole freighter.[1]

  2. StarWars In Shadow Fall, the Dark Secrets of Alphabet Squadron Revealed on StarWars.com (backup link) establishes that Shadow Fall takes place approximately half a year after the Battle of Endor, while Before the Awakening states Kes Dameron and Shara Bey moved to Yavin 4 around six months after the Battle of Endor. Given that Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates their move to 5 ABY, the events of Shadow Fall must also take place around that time.
