"Because this is the place the Force showed the Mother during the flood. She was meditating deeply and saw this chunk of ice and an artifact known as Jedi Tears, a necklace made with a rare stone that reacts to the Force. That's our next liberation."
―Cincey, to Yana Ro[1]

The Jedi Tears was a Force artifact owned by the Graf family and kept at their family compound on the ice planet Thelj during the High Republic Era. It was a necklace made of a rare stone that reacted to the Force. In 382 BBY, after she claimed to have been shown a vision of the Jedi Tears while meditating, the leader of the Path of the Open Hand cult, Elecia Zeveron, instructed a group of Path members known as the Children of the Open Hand to acquire the artifact from Thelj. In secret, Zeveron wanted to use the mission to get rid of the Children, and when they arrived at the compound, the group was ambushed, resulting in two of its members being killed.

Description[]

The Force artifact known as the Jedi Tears was a necklace made of a rare stone that reacted to the Force. According to the Path of the Open Hand cult member Yana Ro, the necklace was rumored to be part of the same set as the Rod of Seasons, a Force artifact that was in a set of rods[1] that controlled the Nameless creatures.[2]

History[]

Yana: "She wants us to hit the compound of the Grafs? Is she insane?"
Cincey: "Yana, we broke into the Hynestian Royal Treasury. This is going to be like a walk to Ferdan."
Yana: "In a flood with high winds, maybe. This assignment is too big for us."
Cincey: "The Force revealed it to her."
Treze: "If the Mother thinks we're ready for this kind of a job, it's because we are."

Elecia Zeveron claimed to have been shown a vision of the Jedi Tears while meditating.

By 382 BBY,[3] during the High Republic Era, the Jedi Tears were owned by the Graf family and kept at their family compound on the ice planet Thelj.[1] That year,[3] the Path of the Open Hand sought to find the set of rods of which the Jedi Tears was rumored to be part. During a flood in the Path compound on the Outer Rim planet Dalna,[1] Elecia Zeveron[2]—the Path's leader also known as the Mother—claimed that she had been given a vision by the Force of a chunk of ice and the Jedi Tears while meditating. Afterward, Cincey—a member of[1] the Children of the Open Hand[4] group that obtained Force artifacts for the Mother—told fellow Children member Yana Ro about Zeveron's vision and that it was to be their next mission. Ro was unsure if the group was capable of pulling off the job, though Treze—another member of the Children—believed if the Mother thought they were ready for the job, then they could do it. Unbeknownst to the Children, however, Zeveron planned to use the mission to dispose of them.[1]

As part of the Children's preparation for the mission, Cincey contacted the personal secretary of Jacinda Graf—who owned the Graf compound—posing as a potential buyer of the Jedi Tears on behalf of the Hynestian royal family. In response, the secretary informed Cincey that Graf and her entourage would be off-planet for at least a month, but would be happy to discuss a possible sale after she returned. After the communication with the secretary, three of the Children—Kor Plouth, Ro, and Treze—traveled to Thelj to acquire the Jedi Tears, believing the lessened security would make their mission easier. When the group arrived at Thelj, Zeveron's associate Radicaz Dobbs—who had brought the Children there in his yacht, the Scupper—contacted the compound on orders from the Mother and warned them of the Children and their intentions to take the Jedi Tears. As a result, the Children were ambushed before they could retrieve the artifact, resulting in the deaths of Plouth and Treze. Ro survived the incident and became determined to take revenge against Zeveron.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Jedi Tears were mentioned in the 2022 young-adult novel The High Republic: Path of Deceit, written by Justina Ireland and Tessa Gratton as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase II.[5]
