The title of this article is conjectural.

Although this article is based on official information from the Star Wars Legends continuity, the actual name of this subject is pure conjecture.

"Soon you will see an entire Republic fleet disappear, thanks to the Silencer."
Moff Pyron[3]

During the Galactic War, the testing of the new Silencer superweapon occurred in the middle of a space battle between Republic Navy and a lone Sith Empire dreadnought.

Prelude[]

During the Galactic War, Moff Valion Pyron dreamed of completing the project Silencer, a megalaser that could destroy entire fleets. When the project was cancelled by Darth Thanaton who was obssessed with the supermacy of the Force, Pyron decided to seek new allies and contacted Thanaton's nemesis Lord Kallig. Pyron asked Kallig to obtain the CN-12 sensor chip required to complete the project, which the Sith Lord did through their contacts on Nar Shaddaa. After thanking his new ally, Pyron promised to finbish the project, which would aid in Kallig's struggle against Thanaton.[5]

When the Silencer was complete, the superlaser was mounted onto the Harrower-class dreadnought Doombringer. Pyron invited Kallig to attend its first testing, for which his fellow Moffs Dolus and Graham and various other Imperial officers would also bear witness. Kallig arrived at the Doombringer aboard his personal ship and the Doombringer jumped into hyperspace.[3]

The Battle[]

"We're here today to demonstrate a new weapon, code name "Silencer.""
―Moff Pyron[3]

Pyron explained to those gathered that the plan was to use the Silencer on a small Republic fleet. But when they emerged out of hyperspace, they found their intended target engaged in a battle against a lone Imperial warship. As the Silencer was prepared to fire, the Doombringer received a distress call, identifying the other ship as Darth Achelon's Carnage and requesting immediate assistance. The matter was complicated by Achelon being an ally of Thanaton and his ship being in the Silencer's blast range. Moff Graham wanted to fire the Silencer anyway, letting Achelon burn in an act of treason. Moff Pyron warned that the Republic ships would destroy the Carnage regardless and that joining them or not using the Silencer would spell their own doom as well. Ultimately, the decision fell to Kallig as the only Sith present and thus the highest authority. The Silencer was fired and the entire Republic force present was obliterated.[3]

Aftermath[]

The Moffs were impressed by the display of the Silencer's power and pledged themselves into an alliance with Kallig. In return, Kallig instructed Pyron to provide a Silencer for each of the Moff's capital ships. Kallig then departed to Corellia, the site of their Kaggath against Thanaton.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

The player can choose to let the Republic destroy the Carnage before firing the Silencer, order it to be fired right away and destroy the Carnage in a blast or give Darth Achelon time to withdraw to a safe distance first. In the latter case, Achelon would show his gratitude by not attacking Kallig[3] and later refusing to do so once again after being ordered to by Thanaton on Corellia.[6]

  4. SWTOR mini Forums: Dear Story Team, What Year Are We Currently In? on The Old Republic's official website (backup link) and Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia establish that the Battle of Ilum and the end of Act III for the class storylines of Star Wars: The Old Republic occur in late 3640 BBY and prior to the events of The Old Republic: Annihilation, which is also set in 3640 BBY per The Essential Reader's Companion. Annihilation establishes that the Treaty of Coruscant collapsed approximately eighteen months prior, or in 3641 BBY, and as Act III occurs after the treaty's collapse, the act begins sometime between 3641 BBY and 3640 BBY. This article assumes that Voss, as the middle of Act III, takes place around the start of 3640 BBY.
