Add a bibliography
The final step in citing your sources is adding a bibliography. All the sources in the Citations section get added to your bibliography, regardless of whether you cite them in your document. You can remove uncited sources, if needed.
Before you add your bibliography
If you have uncited sources that you don’t want to add to your bibliography, you can remove them from the Citations section (details below). Or, if you want to keep the source for later, add the bibliography and then manually remove the source from the bibliography.
-
Open your document in Docs.
- Click ToolsCitations.
- In the Citations section, make sure the correct format is selected and that all of your sources appear.
- In your document, place your cursor where you want the bibliography to appear. Bibliographies normally appear at the end of a document, but before any appendices or an index.
- In the Citations section, click Insert Works Cited or Insert References.
Change the citation format and update a bibliography
- Open your document in Docs.
- Click ToolsCitations.
- In the Citations section, click the Down arrow and select a format.
- In your document, delete any in-text citations and replace them with the newly formatted citations in the Citations section. For details, go to Add in-text citations to your document.
- Delete the old bibliography and add a new one to update the sources. For details, on this page, go to Add a bibliography.
