Assign creatives to a line item

After you've added creatives to your advertiser, you can assign them to line items.

Assign creatives early to avoid delays
  • Assign creatives to line items at least 48 hours before the start date
  • Target each exchange you intend to buy inventory from

This gives you time for all policy reviews to be complete before your campaign starts.

Assign creatives to a line item

  1. Starting in an insertion order, open an existing line item or create a new one.
  2. Scroll down to the Creatives section.
  3. Click Assign creatives. The "Select creatives" window opens with the "Eligible" tab selected by default.
    • The "Eligible" tab is filtered to show all eligible creatives in your advertiser based on the line item type and creative requirements. You can add more filters to narrow down the list of creatives, but you can't remove the filters that are based on line item type and creative requirements.
    • If no creatives are eligible, you may need to first add creatives to your advertiser.
  4. Check the checkboxes beside the creatives you want to use for the line item. To take a look at a creative before you assign it, you can hover over it and click Preview . If you're in list view, you can also switch to gallery view to see thumbnails of each creative.
  5. (Optional) To review which creatives you've selected, click Assigned. Here you'll see creatives that are already assigned, as well as any creatives you just selected.
  6. To confirm your changes, click Apply.
  7. When you're done setting up the rest of your line item, click Save.
If you can't find the creative you're looking for, click All to see all the creatives for your advertiser. Hover over the gray, disabled creatives to see why they aren't eligible for this line item.

(Optional) Choose how to rotate creatives

If you assign more than one creative of the same size to a line item, you can choose how to rotate between the available creatives to fill an impression. Learn more about creative optimization

Frequently asked questions

How does Display & Video 360 handle situations where multiple creatives of the same dimensions are assigned to the same line item?

If your line item uses automated bidding, Display & Video 360 will automatically include creatives in the optimization algorithm, in addition to many other attributes of the line item.

If your line item isn't using automated bidding, Display & Video 360 will try to rotate evenly between all possible creatives. However, you may notice there is a preference to the best performing creatives over time.

Why do some creatives have more than one size?

Responsive creatives are HTML5 creatives that can resize and restyle their content to suit many different sizes of ad inventory. Display & Video 360 supports responsive HTML5 creatives and responsive data-driven creatives.

If your advertiser is linked to Campaign Manager 360, some Campaign Manager 360 placements can serve creative assets into multiple inventory sizes. When these placements are synced over to Display & Video 360, they become responsive creatives.

When you assign a responsive creative to a line item, the creative will serve in the appropriate dimensions for the inventory. Learn how to set up responsive creatives in Campaign Manager 360
