You can add effects to personalize your Duo call or apply a portrait filter to make you look sharper against your background with Effects and Portrait Mode. To keep your data private, Duo doesn’t store your facial data or send it to Google servers.
We use images of your face taken by your camera to give you extra effects during Duo chats. While this occurs during a Duo call, Duo doesn't store any personal or facial data on your device or send it to Google servers. Everything happens on your phone in the Duo app.
Facial data is only used to apply effects to Duo chats on your device. Duo applies these effects to the images with machine learning technology that works on your device before they're sent, so all images, videos, and effects are protected with Duo’s end-to-end encryption. You can turn Effects or Portrait Mode on or off via the in-call and video messaging controls.
