When paired with the GFiber Wi-Fi 6E Router, the Wi-Fi 6E Mesh Extender (model number GE6E220C) provides up to 5,000 square feet of strong, steady Wi-Fi.
It pairs exclusively with the Wi-Fi 6E Router (so you can’t use it with a non-GFiber router) and uses mesh technology to provide seamless coverage throughout your home. It also has tri-band Wi-Fi 6E that automatically selects the best signal for your devices.
The Wi-Fi 6E Mesh Extender can be paired wirelessly to the Wi-Fi 6E Router, but for optimal performance you can connect the extender to the router’s LAN port with an ethernet cable.

Installation
During your professional installation, our technician will check your Wi-Fi coverage area to determine whether a Mesh Extender is needed for your home. If a Mesh Extender is needed, the technician will install the GFiber Wi-Fi 6E Router and Mesh Extender during the same appointment.
Some things to note:
- The 2 Gig, 5 Gig, 8 Gig, and Business 2 Gig plans may include up to two Mesh Extenders.
- The Business 1 Gig plan does not include a Mesh Extender.
Finding the right spot in your home for your Mesh Extender
As a general rule, you’ll want to place the Mesh Extender about halfway between the router and the furthest location where Wi-Fi coverage will be needed. For example, if there’s a room or spot in the far end of your home that typically has a weak Wi-Fi signal, you’ll want to place it halfway between your router’s location and that spot.
How many Mesh Extenders can I use?
We recommend using up to two mesh extenders for a home network setup. You can purchase additional Mesh Extenders for $85 (but there is a limit of six Mesh Extenders per household and you may only order one additional extender at a time).
Please note that using too many extenders can negatively impact your internet speed. You should only add additional extenders if you notice Wi-Fi dead spots in your home. If you have questions or need support, feel free to contact us at any time.
Before you set up your Mesh Extender

Step 1: Turn on your Mesh Extender
Place your Mesh Extender a few feet away from the router and plug it into a power outlet. At first, the status light will turn solid white. This may take up to 4 minutes.
If you’re using the Google Fiber app, press “Continue.”
Step 2: Pair the Mesh Extender with your router
Press the WPS button on the back of your router. Then, press the WPS button on the bottom of your Mesh Extender (both buttons are circled in the image below).
The WPS lights on both the router and extender will start blinking. Once the router and Mesh Extender have paired successfully, the Mesh Extender status light will turn solid green. This may take up to 4 minutes.
If you’re using the Google Fiber app, press “Continue.” The app will let you know when your Mesh Extender connection is successful
Step 3: Move your Mesh Extender to its new location
Once the connection has been established, unplug the Mesh Extender and place it in the location that you plan to use it — ideally, about halfway between the router and the area with poor Wi-Fi signal. Plug it in, and turn the power on again. The status light on the front of the Mesh Extender will turn solid green once it’s powered on and connected to the router.
If you want to run a speed test, stand next to your router or the extender and run a speed test using the Ookla Speed Test App or the Google Fiber app.
Connecting via Ethernet cable
Both of the Mesh Extender’s Ethernet ports can be used to connect devices to your network. To connect the Mesh Extender to the router using an Ethernet cable:
- Connect a Cat6 (or better) ethernet cable from an Ethernet LAN port on your Wi-Fi 6E Router to the Ethernet port on the back of the Mesh Extender.
- Plug your Mesh Extender into power using the power supply cord.
- Wait for the Mesh Extender’s status LED to turn solid green, indicating it has connected (paired) successfully. This may take up to 5 minutes.
Troubleshooting tips
If your Mesh Extender is offline, please verify that it is plugged into a power source and is close enough to the router to get a Wi-Fi signal. If your extender needs to be paired to the router, please follow the instructions above or use the Google Fiber app to pair it to your router.
If your Mesh Extender isn’t responding, you can use a pen or an unfolded paper clip to push the Reset button on the base for at least 10 seconds to reset it to factory default settings. The Wi-Fi 6E Mesh Extender will restart and apply the factory default settings. You’ll need to pair it again with the Wi-Fi 6E Router after performing a factory reset.
