Save files to your SD card

You can save files received using the peer-to-peer sharing feature in the File by Google app directly to your SD card.
  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google. Learn how to check your storage space.
  2. At the top left, tap More Menu and then Settings Settings.
  3. Turn on Save to SD card.
  4. You find a prompt that asks for permissions. Tap Allow.
    • If your internal storage runs out of space when you save a file: You’re prompted to save all incoming files to your SD card instead. Tap Save to SD.
    • If “Save to SD card” is turned on and your SD card runs out of space when you save a file: You’re prompted to save all incoming files to your device instead. Tap Save to internal storage.
Tip: If you remove the SD card mid-transfer, you find a “transfer failed” prompt and the transfer is cancelled.

Troubleshooting: SD card undetected issue

If you don’t find your SD card in Files by Google:

  1. On your device, open your Settings.
  2. Tap Device maintenance and then Storage.
  3. Check if your SD card is recognized.
