The Fitbit Privacy Policy for kids’ accounts explains what information Fitbit receives about you and what we do with it. Here are some key points from that policy.

The Fitbit Privacy Policy explains what information Fitbit receives about you, what we do with it, and what privacy controls you have. Here are some highlights from the policy and useful tips.
Daily stats
To use a Fitbit watch or tracker, you have to create an account in the Fitbit app. You’ll provide some information, including what your name is, when your birthday is, how tall you are, and how much you weigh. This information helps your Fitbit device to track your steps, sleep, and other activity. You can also choose to add profile and background pictures, a sentence or 2 about who you are, and where you live. The stats collected by your Fitbit device depend on which device you have. When your device syncs with the Fitbit app, the stats that your device collects are sent to our systems.
Location
Some Fitbit features use precise location information like GPS data, which lets you see a map of your route if you complete an exercise with GPS tracking turned on. You need a Fitbit device that supports GPS, or you can turn on this feature on your phone. If you don’t want to share your location, you can turn off location services for the Fitbit app on your phone.
Some other stuff
We collect data about how you use Fitbit, including which apps you install and which Fitbit Devices you use. We also receive information about the phone or computer you use with Fitbit, including your IP address and language, and the browser and operating system you use. We use the data that we collect in a few ways, including to provide you with Fitbit, improve our current features and products, and build new stuff that we hope you’ll like.
After you sign up, there are some things that anyone who uses the Fitbit app can see about you, some things that only your friends can see, and some things that only you can see.
Here’s what everyone can see when you sign up:

After signup, you can choose to make most of these things private or to share them with friends only. Here’s how to update your privacy settings in the Fitbit app:
- Tap the Today tab , and tap Devices .
- Tap Social & Sharing Privacy.
- Tap each item to review and adjust your privacy settings.

Community
You can post in the feed or in a group in the Fitbit community. Everyone who uses the Fitbit app can see your post in the feed, including your display name and profile picture. If you post in a group, everyone else in that group can see what you posted and your display name and profile picture.
Tell us if you see something that’s not quite right. We review reported posts, comments, and profiles as quickly as possible to check if someone broke our community guidelines.
You can report a post, comment, user, or group in the Fitbit app.
To report a post:
- Tap the 3 dots in the corner of the post you want to report.
- Tap Report Post.
- Select your reason for reporting the post, then tap Send Feedback.
To report a comment:
- Find the comment you want to report:
- iPhones and iPads: swipe left on the comment, then tap Report.
- Android phones: press and hold on the comment, then tap Report This Comment
- Select your reason for reporting the post, then tap Send Feedback.
To report a user in the Fitbit community:
- From their profile, tap the 3 dots.
- Tap Report Profile.
- Select your reason for reporting the user, then tap Send Feedback.
To report a group in the Fitbit community:
- From the group page, tap the 3 dots.
- Tap Report Group.
- Select your reason for reporting the group, then tap Send Feedback.

Manage friends or block someone
Keep up with friends and family members by adding them as friends in the Fitbit app. You can also remove friends or block someone.
To add friends in the Fitbit app:
- Tap the Today tab , and tap Devices .
- Tap your nameAdd Friends.
- Choose a method to find friends, then tap the Add Friend icon next to the name or email address of the person you want to add.
To remove friends or block someone in the Fitbit app:
- Tap the Today tab , and tap Devices .
- Tap your name and scroll to see your friends.
- Tap View All Friends, then tap the friend you want to delete or block.
- On their profile, tap More.
- To remove the friend, tap Remove Friend.
- To block a friend, tap Block User.
To unblock someone in the Fitbit app:
- Tap the Today tab , and tap Devices .
- Tap Social & Sharing Blocked Users
- Find the person you want to unblock Unblock and confirm.
- Confirm you want to send a friend request.

Direct messages
You can send and receive direct messages from Fitbit friends. To send a message to someone, first you need to add them as a friend.
If you don’t want someone to send a message to you, remove them as a friend, or block them. Follow the steps above to block someone.
Notifications on your Fitbit device
You can see notifications about calls, text messages, and calendar events from your phone right on your wrist. These notifications are turned on automatically after setup. Choose to turn on notifications from apps like Messenger or WhatsApp so that you can see them on your Fitbit device instead of having to take out your phone.
You can answer or reject calls from your phone on your device’s screen. If you have an Android phone, you can also respond to messages from some apps with your device.
Set up and turn notifications on your device on or off in the Fitbit app:
- With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab , then tap Devices .
- Tap your device image Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
- Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
- Sync your device.

Push and email notifications
We send notifications to your phone about your Fitbit activity, like updates about your weekly stats, new badges you get, and when your device’s battery is low. We also send emails about these things and about products you might like (more on that below) to the email address you used to sign up.
Turn push and email notifications on or off in the Fitbit app:
- Tap the Today tab and tap Devices .
- Tap Notifications.
- For each item, review and adjust your notifications settings.
You can add a credit or debit card to some Fitbit Devices and use it to pay for purchases in a store. You can see the last 4 digits of your card number and a picture of your card type on your Fitbit device, but we don’t keep track of your full card number or what you buy. To use contactless payments, you need to set a PIN code, which is a 4-digit number that locks and unlocks your device. You can delete the card from your device in the Fitbit app.
If you want to use your guardian’s credit or debit card with contactless payments, first ask them if it’s okay. When you add their card to your device, your guardian has to approve it with their credit card company or bank.

We never sell your personal information. We don't share your personal information except in the limited situations described in the Fitbit Privacy Policy.
If you choose to connect your Fitbit account with another app like MyFitnessPal or Peloton, you may authorize us to share your exercise or activity data with the other app, and the other app may share similar information with us.
You can stop an app from sharing data with Fitbit, or stop Fitbit from sharing data with another app, at any time.

We share data with trusted business partners that help us provide our product and services. For example, we share data on a confidential basis with our third-party customer support and billing service providers. We may also share data as required by law, for example, in response to a court order.
We may send marketing emails about stuff like new Fitbit watches or trackers to the email address you used to sign up. You can control these emails in the Fitbit app using the steps above, or scroll to the bottom of an email and tap Unsubscribe.
We may also use cookies, which are small pieces of data stored on your web browser or device, to show you ads for Fitbit products that we think you might like. You can control this use of cookies as described in the Your Choices section of the Fitbit Cookie Policy.
Delete your account in the Fitbit app:
- Tap the Today tab , tap your profile icon and Settings .
- Scroll down and tap Manage Data.
- Tap Delete account and follow the on-screen instructions.
Keep in mind that it can take a little while for us to delete all of your account details.
- First 7 days: If you change your mind after you confirm your request to have your account deleted, you have 7 days to recover it—log in to your account to restore access to your Fitbit data.
- After 7 days: Your account is frozen and can’t be recovered.
- Within 30-90 days: Most of your personal account info is deleted within 30 days of when you confirm your deletion request. This includes any subscriptions you have. It may take up to 90 days to delete all of your personal info, like the data recorded by your Fitbit device and other data stored in our backup systems. This is due to the size and complexity of the systems we use to store data.
