How do I control music on YouTube Music?

On Charge 6, Sense 2, and Versa 4, use the YouTube Music Controls app to manage music playback in the YouTube Music app on your phone. Navigate between playlists, skip or replay songs, and adjust the volume from your tracker.

Note:

  • YouTube Music controls on your Fitbit device don’t support offline music playback. Your bluetooth-paired phone must remain nearby with the Fitbit app in the background and connected to the internet.

  • A YouTube Music Premium subscription is required in most locations. For information on YouTube Music Premium, refer to the Google help article YouTube Premium individual memberships.

  • You need to have the YouTube Music app open on your phone. For more information about the YouTube Music app, visit the YouTube Music Help Center.

  • The Fitbit app on your phone must be fully updated. For more information on how to update the Fitbit app, refer to How do I use the Fitbit app?

To control the YouTube Music app from your Fitbit device:

Charge 6

  1. Open the YouTube Music app on your phone. Make sure the Fitbit app is in the background and your phone is nearby.

  2. Swipe to the YouTube Music controls app on your tracker and tap to open it.

    • On the main screen, check the current song and artist. Tap to pause or play the current song.

    • Swipe down to browse through the available music. Tap your most recent playlists, songs, or albums to switch to it.

    • Swipe left to access playback: skip to the next track, restart the current song, or return to the previous track.

    • Swipe left again to access volume controls.

Sense 2 and Versa 4

  1. Open the YouTube Music app on your phone. Note that the Fitbit app must be in the background.

  2. Open the YouTube Music app on your watch.

    • The current song and artist are shown at the top of the screen.

    • Tap the play or pause icon  or Fit Pause icon to pause or play the current song.

    • Tap the skip previous icon  to restart the current song or return to the previous track.

    • Tap the skip next icon  to skip to the next track.

    • Tap the library icon  to browse through the available music. Tap your most recent playlists, songs, or albums to switch to it.

    • Tap the thumbs up icon to like the current song.

    • Tap the volume icon  to adjust the volume.

How do I control music on my phone with my Fitbit device?
Blaze
  • If you have an Android phone, first set up music control. If you have an iPhone, music control should work automatically after setting up Blaze, so skip to step 2.
  1. Swipe to SettingsBluetooth ClassicPair.

  2. On your phone, navigate to the Bluetooth settings where paired devices are listed. Your phone will scan for available devices.

  3. When Blaze Classic appears as an available device, tap it.

  4. Wait a few moments for the 6-digit number to appear on your screen.

  5. When the same 6-digit number appears on Blaze, tap Yes.

  6. On your phone, tap Pair.

  • On Blaze, press and hold the top button to show the current track on your phone.
    • Play or pause the song, or skip to the next track.
    • To control volume, use the top and button buttons on your tracker.
    • Press the back button or swipe up to return to the previous screen.

Note: Both notifications and music control on Blaze use Bluetooth. If you turn on both features, your tracker might appear twice in your phone's list of Bluetooth devices.

Versa, Versa Lite Edition, and Versa 2
  • If you have an Android phone, turn on Bluetooth Classic. If you have an iPhone, skip this step.
  1. Open the Settings app Settings app on your Fitbit device BluetoothRestore Music Controls.

  2. On your phone, navigate to the Bluetooth settings where paired devices are listed. Your phone will scan for available devices.

  3. When the word Classic appears next to your Fitbit device, tap it.

  • While music is playing on your phone, swipe down from the top of your screen on your watch. After your notifications appear, swipe down again to open the control center. Tap the music controls icon .
  • You might need to change the audio source to your phone if you previously listened to music stored on your watch. Tap the 3 dots, then tap the phone icon to change the audio source to your phone.

If you have a Spotify Premium account, access additional music controls using the Spotify app. For more information, refer to How do I control music on Spotify?

Sense and Versa 3
  • If you have an Android phone, turn on Bluetooth Classic to control music. If you have an iPhone, skip this step.
  1. Open the Settings app Settings app on your Fitbit device Vibration & AudioSense Music or Versa 3 Music.
  2. On your phone, navigate to the Bluetooth settings where paired devices are listed. Your phone will scan for available devices.
  3. When the word Classic appears next to your Fitbit device, tap it.
  • While the music is playing, double-press the button to make your shortcuts appear.
  • Tap the music controls icon .
  • The icon in the top-left corner shows whether the music source is currently set to your phone or your watch . If it’s set to your watch, tap it to change the music source to your phone, then press the button to return to your music controls.
  • Play, pause, or tap the arrow icons to skip to the next track or previous track. Tap the volume icon to adjust the volume.
How do I control music stored on my Fitbit device?

To control music from an app on your Fitbit device, follow the instructions below.

Versa and Versa 2
  1. Make sure you have Bluetooth headphones or a speaker paired to your device. For instructions, refer to How do I connect Bluetooth audio devices to my Fitbit watch?

  2. Swipe down from the top of your screen. After your notifications appear, swipe down again to open the control center. Tap the music controls icon .

  3. You may need to change the audio source to your watch if you previously listened to music from a different audio source. Tap the 3 dots, then tap the watch icon.

  4. Play, pause, or tap the arrow icons to skip to the next track or previous track. Press the + and - icons to control the volume.

  5. Press the back button to return to the track list or app.

Sense and Versa 3
  1. Make sure you have Bluetooth headphones or a speaker paired to your device. For instructions, refer to How do I connect Bluetooth audio devices to my Fitbit watch?

  2. While music is playing from an app on your watch, double-press the button. Your shortcuts appear.

  3. Tap the music controls icon .

  4. The icon in the top-left corner shows whether the music source is currently set to your phone or your watch . If it’s set to your phone, tap it to change the music source to your watch, then press the button to return to your music controls.

  5. Play, pause, or tap the arrow icons to skip to the next track or previous track. Tap the volume icon to adjust the volume.

How do I control music on Spotify?

On certain Fitbit devices, use the Spotify app to control the music in the Spotify app on your phone, computer, or other Spotify Connect device. Navigate between playlists, like songs and switch between devices from your Fitbit device. To check which devices support the Spotify app, visit the Fitbit Gallery.

Note:

  • The Spotify app on your Fitbit device doesn’t support offline music playback, so your paired phone must remain nearby with the Fitbit app in the background and connected to the internet.

  • A Spotify Premium subscription is required. For information on Spotify Premium, refer to spotify.com.

  • You must have the Spotify app open on the device playing music. For more information on Spotify Connect, refer to spotify.com.

To control the Spotify app from your Fitbit device:

  1. In the Fitbit app, tap the Today tab Devices your device image.

  2. Tap Spotify Settings.

  3. Tap Log in and follow the on-screen instructions to log in to your Spotify Premium account.

  4. Open the Spotify app on your phone or other device.

  5. Open the Spotify app on your Fitbit device to control music.

    • Tap the devices icon to switch between devices. To have a specific device appear, you must have the Spotify app open on that device and be logged in to your account. Up to 8 devices are listed.

    • Tap the shuffle icon to shuffle the tracks.

    • Tap the heart icon to like a track.

    • Use the controls to switch playlists and to play, pause, or skip to the next track or previous track.

    • Swipe right to show your 8 most recently played playlists, or tap Library to find the playlists you created, the playlists created for you, and a selection of workout playlists. Tap a playlist to switch to it.

Note: On Charge 4, swipe left and right to access different settings.
Why isn't music control working on my Fitbit device?

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting YouTube Music app on my Fitbit device

If you have trouble with your YouTube Music controls on Fitbit Charge 6, Sense 2, and Versa 4, check these things first:

  • Your paired phone is nearby with the Fitbit app in the background and connected to the internet.

  • The Fitbit app must be fully updated. For more information on how to update the Fitbit app, go to How do I use the Fitbit app?

  • You have a YouTube Music Premium subscription in most locations. For information on YouTube Music Premium, go to the Google help article YouTube Premium individual memberships.

  • You have the YouTube Music app open on your phone and it’s fully updated. For more information about the YouTube Music app, go to the YouTube Music Help Center.

  • Your device is fully updated. For more information on how to update Charge 6, Sense 2, and Versa 4, go to How do I update my Fitbit device?

For specific error messages, check the table below.

 

Make sure your phone has access to the internet, either through Wi-Fi or a cellular data signal.

Your device can’t communicate with your phone. Follow the troubleshooting steps in Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

Log in to your YouTube Music account and finish the onboarding in the Fitbit app on your phone. For more information, go to How do I control music with my Fitbit device?

You must have a YouTube Music Premium account to use the YouTube Music app on your device. If you recently upgraded to YouTube Music Premium and this message appears, restart the YouTube Music app. For more information on YouTube Music Premium, go to YouTube Premium individual memberships.

Open the YouTube Music app on your phone.

In order to use the YouTube Music app on your Fitbit device, the YouTube Music app on your phone must have access to Bluetooth. In the Settings app on your phone, open YouTube Music in the list of apps, and make sure the switch next to Bluetooth is turned on.

My Fitbit device won’t display the track on my phone
  1. If the message "Music unselected" or "No music" appears on your device's screen, make sure that music is playing on your nearby phone.

  2. If your Fitbit device is paired to an Android phone, make sure Bluetooth Classic is enabled.

Why can't I control music from the Spotify app on my Fitbit device
No internet connection screen

Make sure your phone has access to the internet, either through Wi-Fi or a cellular data signal.

No Bluetooth connection screen

Your device can’t communicate with your phone. Follow the troubleshooting steps in Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

Spotify Premium error screen

You must have a Spotify Premium account to use the Spotify app on your device. Go to support.spotify.com for more information on Spotify Premium.

No devices connected screen

Open the Spotify app on the device you want to control. In order to control your music from your Fitbit device, you must be logged into the same Spotify account on both devices.

 

I can’t control music on my phone from my Fitbit watch

If you recently listened to music in an app on Fitbit Sense or Fitbit Versa series, you may need to change the music source to your phone:


Note: This feature isn't available on Fitbit Sense 2, Fitbit Versa Lite Edition, or Fitbit Versa 4.

Versa and Versa 2
  1. On your watch, swipe down from the top of your screen. After your notifications appear, swipe down again to open the control center. Tap the music controls icon .

  2. Tap the 3 dots icon .

  3. Tap the phone icon to change the source.

  4. Press the back button to return to the track list. On this screen, you can play or pause the track or skip to the next track.

Sense and Versa 3
  1. Double-press the button on your watch to open your shortcuts menu.

  2. Tap the music controls icon . If you removed music controls from your shortcuts, add it in the Settings app Settings app. For more information, go to How do I navigate my Fitbit device?

If a watch icon  appears, tap it and change the music source to your phone .
