Create and manage a Family chat

Note:

  • Only members of your Google Family group can participate in the Family chat. To view and manage your Family Group, visit g.co/YourFamily.
  • Google family members who have downloaded and signed in to the Ace app or siblings with their own Fitbit Ace LTE can join the family group chat.

Family Communications on Fitbit Ace LTE

Enable Family chat

The family manager or a member with parental permissions can turn on the Family chat from the Ace app. Once turned on, Family chat will be available on your child’s watch.

  1. On your phone, open the Fitbit Ace app.

  2. Tap Family chat at the bottom of your Ace app home screen.

  3. Tap Turn on Family chat.

    1. ​​​​You need at least 3 family members in your Google Family Group to use Family chat. If you receive an “It takes three to tango!” message, tap Add family member.

    2. If you receive a “Waiting for family members to join” message, the members aren't logged in to the Fitbit Ace app, or don’t have the latest version of Fitbit Ace LTE. If you’ve added a family member who hasn’t joined the Family chat yet, tap their name with the email icon to send them a link to download the Fitbit Ace app.

Add members to your Family chat

After turning on Family chat from your Ace app, members of your family group who are signed in to the latest Fitbit Ace app or have their own Fitbit Ace LTE will be automatically added to the chat.

To check the Family group members in your chat:

  1. In Family chat, tap the group icon.
    1. A list of family members already added to the chat is displayed, along with members who need to sign in to the Ace app.
    2. Tap Mail to send them an email with a link to download the Fitbit Ace app. If a family member has their own Fitbit Ace LTE, the device will need to be on the latest software version to be added to the Family chat.
  2. When viewing the ‘People in chat’, tap and then Manage family. You’ll find a list of members in your family group account. To add someone new, tap Send Invitation .

Note: New Family chat members will not have access to previous conversation history. They can only access conversations after they are added to the chat

Remove members from your Family chat

  • To remove a member from the Family chat group, they must need to be removed from the Google Family group.
    • Any member removed from the Family group, won’t be able to participate in the chat.
  • Family members who wish to leave the Family chat need to sign out of their Ace app and will no longer receive notifications.
  • Users will also no longer appear as members in the chat if they have been logged out for over 30 days. They’ll be automatically added back in the chat once they log in again.

Displayed in the chat group if a user has left the Google Family group, the Google account is deleted, or the account is not active for over 30 days.
