When you download a video clip from the Nest app or the Home app, it comes with timestamps that are visible when you turn on English subtitles. This comes in handy when you want to know when your video clip was recorded.
For example, if your Google Nest camera records a burglar breaking into your home, you have a video clip with the date and time to give to the police. Or if your camera captures your child’s first steps, the video clip can let you know exactly how and when it happened.
Nest camera timestamps aren’t permanently recorded on top of your video clips like timestamps from traditional camcorders. Instead, you can show or hide them whenever you want.
Display the timestamp in a video clip
Note: Timestamps aren't saved with timelapses (footage that has been sped up to show several minutes or hours in a few seconds).
- Download a video clip to your computer or mobile device.
- Open the downloaded video clip in a video player that supports subtitles.
- In your video player's settings, turn on English subtitles to show the timestamp.
- After you turn on English subtitles, the timestamp should show at the bottom of the video with the date and time of the recording. Turn subtitles off to hide the timestamp again.
Tip: You can also find the date and time of video clips saved in the video clip library at home.nest.com or in the default file name of a video clip saved from home.google.com.
On home.nest.com:
- On the home page, select your camera.
- Tap Clips View clips. Each video clip is labelled with the date and time that it was recorded.
On home.google.com:
- Select the camera that recorded the video you want.
- Tap the event that you want to turn into a video clip.
- Click Save a clip . The default video clip file name will show the date and time that the video clip was recorded.
