The lights let you know if Heat Link is connected to your Google Nest thermostat. If it’s disconnected and you need to turn on manual heating, the lights will tell you when your system is running.

Heat Link for 3rd gen Nest Learning Thermostat
The lights on the 3rd generation Heat Link let you know that everything is working the way it should be or if the Heat Link has lost connection to the Nest Thermostat.
The Heat Link’s status light will typically be solid green, but it may also be a solid blue or yellow, or even blinking, depending on the situation. The heating and hot water lights will normally be off unless you manually turn on heating and hot water.
How do I turn on the heat if my Nest Thermostat isn't working? >
During setup
During setup, the Heat Link’s status light will let you know what’s going on. The heating light (in the shape of three wavy lines) and the hot water light (shaped like a water drop) will be off.

During normal operation
When things are working like they should, the Heat Link’s status light will be a steady green. The Heat Link’s heating light and hot water light will come on when heating and hot water are turned on manually.

When the Heat Link is disconnected from the Nest Thermostat
Most of the time, the Heat Link’s status light will be green. But in rare cases, the Heat Link can become disconnected from the Nest Thermostat. When this happens, the Heat Link’s status light will be yellow. If the Heat Link becomes disconnected, you can still turn your heating and hot water on manually.
