Participate in the Families Self-Certified Ads SDK Program

Google Play Families Self-Certified Ads SDK Program will accept new applicants until October 31, 2024, after which the application window will close. The application window will reopen in 2025, and guidelines will be announced here at a later date. 

Current participants and their program compliance requirements will remain unchanged.

Google is focused on providing a great experience for families on Google Play and wants to help make sure that any ads served to children are appropriate and compliant with our policies. Review our Families Self-Certified Ads SDK policy in the Developer Policy Center.

The following ads SDKs have self-certified their compliance with Play’s Families Self-Certified Ads SDK Program requirements. If your app's target audience includes children and serves ads using an ads SDK, you must use one of the self-certified ads SDK versions below:

*AppLovin has left the Families Self-Certified Ads SDK Program. AppLovin continues to be committed to providing a great ad experience to adult users of apps on Google Play. Families app developers will need to transition to a Families self-certified ads SDK version listed above by May 31, 2023.


If your app's target audience includes only children and serves ads using an ads SDK, you must only use a version of one of the above ads SDKs that has self-certified as part of this Program.

Apps that include children and adults in their target audience are allowed to use non-certified ads SDKs for serving ads only to users who are not children. For example, apps that have both audiences  may implement a neutral age screen to be compliant. Apps that are not for children (for example, apps with content ratings of “T” or “MA”) or apps that do not serve ads to children are not required to use a Families self-certified ads SDK.

Note that it is your responsibility to ensure that any SDK you implement in your app is compliant with all applicable policies, local laws, and regulations. Google does not provide any representations or guarantees as to the accuracy of the information the ads SDKs provide during the self-certification process.

If Google becomes aware that a self-certified version of an ads SDK is in violation of Play’s Families Self-Certified Ads SDK Program requirements, the version’s self-certification will be removed from the above list. It is recommended that app developers consult this page before publishing a new app or updating an app to confirm the self-certification status of the ads SDK version(s) included in their apps. Violation of Play Developer Program Policies may also result in removal of the ads SDK from the Families Self-Certified Ads SDK Program.

The use of self-certified ads SDKs is only required if you are using third-party ads SDKs in your app. The following are permitted without the requirement of self-certification, however, app publishers are responsible for all ads served in their apps. Ads must be appropriate for all users, and any data collection must be compliant with our data handling policies:

  • In-House Advertising, including cross promotion whereby app publishers use SDKs to manage cross promotion of their apps or other owned media and merchandising
  • Direct deals with advertisers and only using ads SDKs for inventory management

If you use solutions like real-time bidding, you must ensure that all ad creatives to be rendered are reviewed and rated before being delivered to users or that you only partner with self-certified ads sources (see list above).

In order for an ads SDK to be included on the list above, the ads SDK must self-certify that they are compliant with Play’s Developer Program Policies, including Families Self-Certified Ads SDK Program policies, provide Google with sufficient information to verify policy compliance, and self-certify that they are compliant with all applicable local laws and regulations. 

In order for an ads SDK to maintain its Families Self-Certified Ads SDK status, the ads SDK must respond in a timely manner to any subsequent requests for information, such as submitting new versions using this form; self-certifying that each submitted version is compliant with the latest Play’s Developer Program Policies, including Families Self-Certified Ads SDK Program policies, as well as local laws and regulations; and providing a test app. 

 If you would like an ads SDK to be considered for this program, please share this interest form with them. Completion of this form does not guarantee that an ads SDK will become part of the program. Until an ads SDK has been added to the list above, it will not be considered part of the Families Self-Certified Ads SDK Program. Please be sure to check this list periodically for any change in self-certification status of the ads SDKs that you may be using.
