Things to know about points

  • You can earn points with Google Play purchases that you've made on your Android device, computer, and Smart TV.
  • You can’t purchase points or convert points to cash.
  • You can’t transfer points between accounts or to someone else, even if they are a part of your family group.
  • If you have Google Play Points and change your billing country, your points are lost and your level isn’t carried over to the new billing country.

How points are calculated

To calculate points earned, multiply the item’s price by the base earn rate for your level. The number of points you’ll earn is rounded up or down to the nearest whole number. If you earn below a certain amount based on the applicable region, you may earn 0  points.

You’ll only earn points for the price of the item, not including any taxes paid.

For example:

At the Bronze level, you earn 1 point per ‎$1 USD on all purchases. If you spend $5 USD, you get 5 points.

  • When you move up to the Silver level, you earn 1.10 points per ‎$1 USD. If you spend $5 USD, you get 6 points, rounded up from 5.50.
Tip: At the start of each calendar year, your level may change based on how many points you earned the year before. The higher your level, the more you earn per $1 USD on all purchases. Learn more about level changes.

What your points count towards

Earned points count towards both Play Points balance and level progress.

  • Play Points balance: Use these points to unlock special items in apps and games or exchange them for Google Play Credit. When you use or exchange points, the points will be deducted from this balance. Any points you earn will expire one year after the last time you earned or used points.
  • Level progress: Points you’ve earned in a calendar year count as progress towards the next level. Points won’t be deducted from your level progress when you use them. Once you reach a level, you keep that level until the end of the next calendar year.

When you return or cancel a purchase that you earned points on, those points will be deducted from your Play Points balance and level progress.

Earn extra points through promotions

Some promotions will increase your earning rate on select purchases. You can earn points at the highest available earn rate during specified time periods.

  • Multiple promotions can’t be combined on a single purchase.
  • Promotions have a set earn rate that they apply.
  • Promotions and their expiration dates may vary.
  • Some promotions may require an activation.
  • Some promotions may have an expiration date. If you make your purchase after the expiration date, you earn points at the regular rate for your level.
  • Some promotions are open to select participants based on their purchase history or interactions with the Google Play Store app.
  • Multi-purchase promotions are currency-specific. To qualify, purchases must occur in the same currency as the promotion.
    • Example: The multi-purchase promotion says, "Make 5 purchases of $0.99 USD or more to earn 100 points." Only purchases in USD qualify for this promotion.
  • For app and game installation promotions, it must be your first time to install the app.
    • To earn points, you must spend time in the app within 24 hours after installation. Points may take up to 7 days to show in your account. If you don’t meet the offer eligibility criteria, you won’t find the reward in the Points History tab.
    • To verify whether you’ve met the offer criteria, Google needs to access certain app activity data. Access to this information is controlled by your personalization settings. Changes to your personalization settings may affect your ability to earn points from this offer.

Frequently asked question

Why can’t I find offers to earn Play Points for trying new apps and games?

The offers you find on Google Play depends on several factors, like your personalization settings.

To earn Play Points for trying new apps and games, Google needs certain information about how you use the app to confirm whether you're eligible for the offer. For example:

Check your promotions

  1. Open the Google Play Store app Google Play.
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap Play Points and then Earn.
    • At the top is your base level earning rate.
    • At the bottom is a list of promotions and their special offers.

Here’s an example of how points are calculated with a special earn rate:

John is at the Silver level, and his base earn rate for all purchases is 1.10 points per $1 USD.
He gets a special offer to earn 3 points per $1 USD from a specific game. Because the special offer is a better earn rate than his base earn rate, John will get the special offer rate for purchases in that game.
When he spends $1 USD in that game during the special offer period, he’ll earn 3 points on that purchase.
