Dimensions of Your Datasets

A shared dataset has the following components:

  • Layer type: All layer types included in your dataset.
  • Version number: A new version of your dataset is created for each data pull or manual upload.
  • Version status: The resolution of the entire version (New, Under review, etc.).
  • Version layer type: The partitioned subsets of your dataset version. They are created by Google team members based on layers represented by the attached files.
  • Version layer type status: The resolution of a single partitioned layer type.
  • Dataset source: How your data is received.
    • Fetch: your data is acquired through a pull feed.
    • Download: your data is acquired from a website URL.
    • Upload: your data is acquired through a manual data upload.

View Your List of Datasets

Click Datasets in the navigation panel to view all of the datasets you've submitted, including datasets that are currently being processed. The Datasets page also shows the dataset name, associated layer types, description, latest version date, dataset source, and status.

Click on an individual dataset to see more details.

Sort and filter datasets

  1. Click Datasets in the navigation panel to open the Datasets page, then click in the filter search bar to open the list of filtering options.

  1. Click one of the filtering options, which correspond to the columns in the Datasets page (Layer types, Latest version dateStatus, etc.). This will bring up the list of parameters for that filtering option.
  2. Select the checkboxes for the parameters you want to include, and then click Apply.

  1. The list of datasets is now filtered, and the active filter is displayed in the filter search bar. To further refine your view and filter by additional columns, you can click Add a filter.

View Your Dataset’s Versions

While viewing the details for a single dataset, you can click the expander arrow next to the version number to show all versions that have been pulled or uploaded. This also shows the date each version was added and its current status.

Viewing layer types within your dataset version

Once version layer types have been created and are appended to a given version, the Import progress by layer type field will show the status of those layer types.

Note: The Import progress by layer type field will indicate that the files are under review until all relevant layer types have been indentified.

Feedback We Share for Your Dataset

Each time you share individual datasets, the Google Maps Content Partners (GMCP) team provides feedback on dataset version status, version layer type status, and data clarifications or issues.

Dataset version status

You will be notified when a dataset version is being processed, as well as when the entire dataset version has finished processing. The status will change from New or Under Review to one of the following:

  • In use: We have accepted your data in part or in full, and it has resulted in direct edits to our map. No further changes are pending.
  • Parked: No edits have been made. We likely have higher priority layer types or locations and have paused work on your data, but we may revisit your data in the future.
  • Not used: No edits have been made and we do not plan to use this data. A reason will be provided explaining why it was rejected in general terms. These reasons may include unsupported layer types, incorrect data formatting, authoritative source verification, data quality issues, or other reasons. For more details, check the Reason not used on the upload page.

NoteFeel free to message us within the portal for questions specific to version status.

Version layer-type status

A Google team member will update the individual ingestion status of each version’s layer type within the tool once the data has reached a new stage or status. You will be able to view the status of the layer types, but you will not be notified every time there is a change to a layer-type status.

GMCP uses the same terminology for version layer types as for dataset versions:

  • In use: We have accepted your data in part or in full, and it has resulted in direct edits to our map. No further changes are pending.
  • Parked: No edits have been made. We likely have higher priority layer types or locations and have paused work on your data, but we may revisit your data in the future.
  • Not used: No edits have been made and we do not plan to use this data. A reason will be provided explaining why it was rejected in general terms. These reasons may include unsupported layer types, incorrect data formatting, authoritative source verification, data quality issues, or other reasons. For more details, check the Reason not used on the upload page.
  • NoteFeel free to message us within the portal for questions specific to layer-type status.

Data clarification or issues

If we require clarification on your data, we will reach out to you via the Message Inbox. We will wait two weeks for your response, and then send out an additional message. If there is no response after one month, we will close the instance.
