You can join community challenges to support local businesses, share your take on the places you love, and then earn bonus points in the Google Maps app. If there’s a community challenge for you, you can find it in the Contribute tab.
Important: This feature is only available in select countries.
Join a community challenge
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app
.
- At the bottom, tap Contribute.
- Once you find the “Community challenge” section, tap See how it works.
- To participate in the local challenge, tap Join others.
Contribute to a community challenge
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app
- Continue visiting your favorite places.
- For places that appear on the community challenge page, prepare a post. Depending on the type of challenge, you can add photos, ratings, reviews, or even suggest an edit.
Tip: You can earn points with every post. When you reach a milestone during a challenge, you can earn bonus points. Learn more about points, levels, and badging.
Find your contributions to the latest community challenge
- On your mobile phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app
- At the bottom, tap Contribute.
- On the “Challenge completed” card, tap See contributions.
Tip: After the latest community challenge ends, you can find a summary of your personal contributions for up to a week.
Learn about community milestones
- You’ll be notified when the community as a whole reaches a milestone.
- If your contributions helped the community reach that milestone, you’ll receive a reward.
- If your contributions helped the community reach a previous milestone, you won’t receive a reward for the current one.
- You can claim your reward anytime after hitting a milestone that you contributed to, until up to a week after the challenge ends.
