Make Google Maps load faster

If Google Maps loads slowly, here are a few things you can try.

Get the latest app version

To make sure that you have the best performance and can use the most recent features, update your Maps app version.

Get the latest Google Maps app.

Go back to the original app version

If you want to go to back to the original version of Google Maps that was installed on your phone or tablet, follow the steps below.

  1. On your phone or tablet, open the Settings app Settings app.
  2. Under "Device," select Apps.
  3. Choose Maps Maps.
  4. In the top right, tap More More.
  5. Tap Uninstall updates.

Note: Instructions may vary depending on your device.

Clear app data

Google Maps stores data like shared locations, saved locations, and map tiles on your phone or tablet.

Clearing this data will do the following things:

  • Delete cache (including search suggestions, direction searches, map tiles, and activity page content stored on your device)
  • Delete cookies

This action can't be undone, so make sure you want to delete all of the items above before clearing application data. This action will only delete data stored on your phone or tablet, not data stored on Google servers.

To clear app data from the Google Maps app, follow the steps below.

  1. Open your Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps or Application manager (depending on your device, this may be different).
  3. Select Maps.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap Clear data.

Note: Instructions may vary depending on your device.

Ask a Maps expert

If the things above didn't help, you can look for other solutions on our Google Maps Product Forum. If Google Maps continues to load slowly, send us feedback.
