You can finish tasks faster on your Pixelbook by reorganizing and moving your apps and tabs.
Open & close browser windows and tabs
Tired of switching windows? Overwhelmed by too many tabs? Here's how you can open, close, or restore windows and tabs in Chrome.
Tablet mode- Open a new window: In the top-right corner of your Chrome window, tap More New window.
- Open a new tab: Next to your open tab, tap New .
- Close window or tab: At the top right, tap Close .
- Reopen a window or tab you closed: At the top of the window (not on a tab), tap and hold to open the menu Reopen closed tab.
- Open a new window: In the top-right corner of your Chrome window, tap More New window. Or, you can press Ctrl + n.
- Open a new tab: Next to your open tab, click New . Or, you can press Ctrl + t.
- Close window or tab: At the top right, click Close . Or, you can press Ctrl + w.
- Reopen a window or tab you closed: At the top of the window (not on a tab), right-click to open the menu Reopen closed tab. Or, you can press Ctrl + Shift + t.
See all windows and switch between them
Whatever apps or windows you have open, you can switch between them in a flash.
Tablet mode- To see all available windows: From the top of the screen, drag your finger down to show other available windows in overview. Then tap the window you want. You can also do this by tapping Overview in the bottom corner of your screen.
- To switch between the current and last used window: In the bottom corner of the screen, double-tap Overview .
- To see all available windows: Press & hold Alt, then tap Tab until you get to the window you want to open. You can also do this on your keyboard by pressing the Overview key .
- To switch between the current and last used window: Press & hold Alt, then press Tab.
Change window size
Adjust the size of the windows on your device.
Tablet mode- View full screen: In the top-right corner of your Chrome window, tap More Full screen .
- Maximize window: Windows are already maximized in tablet mode.
- Resize a window: Decrease the size of a window with split screen. Swipe down from the top of the window and drag it to either edge of the screen.
- Minimize all windows: In the bottom left corner of the screen, tap Launcher .
- View full screen: At the top of your keyboard, press Full screen (or F4). You can also go to the top-right corner of your Chrome window, tap More Full screen .
- Maximize window: Press the Alt and + keys to maximize the window. You can also go to the top right of your Chrome window, click Maximize .
- Minimize window: Press the Alt and - keys to minimize the window.You can also go to the top right of your Chrome window, click Minimize .
See two windows at the same time
Use split screen to see windows side by side.
Tablet mode- From the top of one of the windows, swipe down and drag it to either edge of the screen. Release when the screen splits into a new window.
- You can also do this by long-pressing Overview to use the current window, or by tapping Overview in the bottom corner of your screen and dragging the window you want to use to either edge of the screen.
- Tap the window you want to see on the other side of the split screen.
- To adjust the sizes of the two windows, tap the line at the center of the split screen and drag it until the windows are sized the way you want.
- To remove split screen, tap the line at the center of the split screen and drag it to either side. You can also do this by long-pressing Overview or swiping down from the top of the screen.
From the top of one of the windows, click and drag the window to either edge of the screen. Release when the screen splits into a new window.
You can also use the keyboard shortcut Alt + ] to move right, or Alt + [ to move left.
Reorder, move, or pin tabs
They say that organization is the key to success, and that's true of tabs as well. You can put related tabs together, or move a tab into or out of a window. Also, if there's a webpage you always want open, like your email, you can make that tab easy to find by pinning it.
Tablet mode- Reorder tabs within the same window: Drag the tab to a different position along the top of the browser window.
- Move a tab into a new window: Drag the tab away from the window.
- Move a tab into another window: From the top of the tab, drag your finger down to split the tab into a new window. Then, from the top of the new window, drag your finger down, and drag the tab over the window you want to add it to. When you release the tab, it will merge with the existing window.
- Move a tab from one split screen window to another: When in split screen, drag the tab away from the window and over to the other half of the screen. It can be added to an existing Chrome window, or become the new split screen window.
- Pin a tab in place: Tap and hold the tab you want to pin to see the menu. Select Pin tab. The pinned tab will appear on the left side of your browser window, and will be smaller.
- Reorder tabs within the same window: Drag the tab to a different position along the top of the browser window.
- Move a tab into a new window: Drag the tab away from the window.
- Move a tab into another window: Drag the tab into the window you want.
- Pin a tab in place: Right-click the tab and select Pin tab. The pinned tab will appear on the left side of your browser window, and will be smaller.
