Programmable Search Engine integrates with Google For Nonprofits, https://www.google.com/nonprofits/, and with Google For Education, https://edu.google.com/products/productivity-tools/, to offer Programmable Search Engine on your nonprofit, government agency, or school's website for free without advertising.
Please note that this applies only to the client side Programmable Search Engine Element. Using the JSON API will still cost $5 per 1000 queries.
To register as a nonprofit:
- If you do not have a search engine, first Create your search engine.
- If your organization is already registered with Google for Nonprofits, have your organization add the email address that is the owner of the search engine or a verified administrator of the search engine to their organization.
- Otherwise, visit https://www.google.com/nonprofits/ and click the Get Started button at the top of the page using the same email address to register for Google for Nonprofit as was used to create your search engine, or that is a verified administrator of your search engine.
- Once done, please wait for a few days for the sync to happen. Within a couple business days, you should receive an email indicating that your search engine has been upgraded to Nonprofit version. Your search engine will be upgraded to a non-profit version automatically and the option to disable Ads will be enabled on the Programmable Search Engine control panel.
- You can now disable ads as described below.
To register as a school:
- If you do not have a search engine, first Create your search engine.
- If your organization is already registered with Google for Education, have your organization add the email address that is the owner of the search engine or a verified administrator of the search engine as a Super Admin of the domain.
- Otherwise, visit https://edu.google.com/workspace-for-education/editions/overview/, click Get started and complete the flow using the same Google Account used to create your search engine, or that is a verified administrator of your search engine.
- Once done, please wait for a few days for the sync to happen. Within a couple business days, you should receive an email indicating that your search engine has been upgraded to Nonprofit version. Your search engine will be upgraded to a non-profit version automatically and the option to disable Ads will be enabled on the Programmable Search Engine control panel.
- You can now disable ads as described below.
To register as a government agency:
- If you do not have a search engine, first Create your search engine.
- Fill out this form to request the Government Edition of Programmable Search Engine
- Within a couple business days, you should receive an email indicating whether your search engine has been upgraded to Nonprofit edition.
- You can now disable ads as described below.
To disable ads on a qualifying non-profit search engine:
- From the list of search engines, select the search engine you want to edit.
- Under Overview, scroll down to Ads.
- Toggle to Enable/Disable to show or not to show Ads.
