Waze lets you know when the speed limit is about to change drastically. As you near a new speed limit, you’ll get an alert, giving you time to reduce your speed and drive safer. If you’re driving below the new speed limit, you won’t see this alert.
Note: Speed limits changes are added to the map based on reports from our partners and map editors – if a speed limit change wasn't reported by an editor or partner, Waze may not know about it.
Using Waze in your car? Manage alerts on your phone. The changes will apply when you use Waze in your car. If you're using Android Auto or CarPlay, make sure to disconnect your phone first.
Turn off reduced speed alerts
- Open Waze
- Tap
- Tap Settings
- Tap Alerts and reports
- Tap Reports. A list of all report types appears.
- Tap Reduced speed ahead

Turn off:
- Show on map - When turned on, you'll see alerts on the map
- Alert while driving - When turned on, you'll get a voice alert and an alert will pop up on your screen
