Got questions?

Waze wrongly directed me onto an express lane or HOV. Why did this happen?

Waze most likely routed you through this lane because you have a subscription pass listed or because your vehicle type in Waze is set to "Taxi" or "Electric car". To avoid this in the future, check your settings.

Step 1: Check your vehicle

Your vehicle type is set to "Private" by default, but you may have updated this setting at some point. Make sure to set your vehicle type to "Private" to avoid being routed through HOV lanes.

Step 2: Check the expiration date of your passes

Check that your toll and HOV passes are up to date.

  1. Open Waze
  2. Tap
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Toll and HOV passes
  5. Tap Remove pass next to any expired passes to remove them, or tap  to add new passes from the list

Step 3: Check your toll road settings

If you don't want Waze to direct you through toll roads, make sure your "Avoid tolls roads" setting is turned on.
  1. Open Waze
  2. Tap
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Tap Navigation
  5. Turn on "Avoid toll roads"
