Having a payment hold on your AdSense for YouTube account can be frustrating, as it prevents you from getting the money you've earned. This article will explain common reasons why your YouTube earnings might be on hold and how to fix each issue.

Is there an alert in your Google payments center?

Did you get a request from the Google Payments team via email, asking you to verify your personal info?

Go to your Google payments center and click the alert to find out what you need to do to remove the hold.

If you got an email from the Google Payments team, respond with the requested info within 5 business days.

We’re reviewing your account for compliance with the AdSense program policies and the Adsense for YouTube Terms and Conditions or AdSense Terms and Conditions (whichever is applicable).

We monitor all accounts for policy compliance and invalid activity. At times, while your account is under investigation, we’ll place a temporary hold on your payments.

Is there an alert on your Payments page in AdSense for YouTube? You don't need to take action. We’ll automatically remove this hold at the end of the investigation, if your account complies with our policies and your traffic is valid.

If you have a payment hold on your account, it won’t be removed until you fix the issue that’s causing the hold. If you've resolved the issue causing the hold, but your payments are still on hold, contact us for help.

Other reasons for a payment hold

There may also be a few occasions when we reach out to you for personal info. One instance is when the Google payments team requires you to submit certain info in order to confirm your identity. When this happens, we’ll place a temporary hold on your AdSense for YouTube account until you've confirmed your info.

If you're affected by this type of payment hold:

  • We'll send an email to the email address you've specified in the "Payments > Settings" section of your AdSense for YouTube account. This email will come from the payments team and will be sent from a Google email alias. In this email we'll ask you to provide some personal info.
  • A red alert notification will surface in your AdSense for YouTube account, saying that there's a payment hold on your account.
  • On your "Transactions" page, you'll notice that a payment has been issued to you, but that there's also a payment hold on your account.

What should I do if I’m affected? How do I get rid of the payment hold?

If you don't get an email from the Google payments team via a Google email alias, you don't need to do anything.

If you notice a red payment hold notification in your account, but you haven't gotten an email from the Google payments team, then contact us via the button in the notification.

If you do get an email from the Google payments team, via a Google email alias, that asks for verification of your personal info, then:

  1. Reply directly to the email.
  2. Share all the necessary info, or in some cases, a copy of your documents, within 5 business days.

Note that we can’t pay you until you give us the requested info.

Why are you asking me for this info?

Sometimes, Google’s bank (or an intermediary bank) will require that we verify personal info in order to complete the AdSense for YouTube disbursement process. Google does not store creator info such as date of birth, nationality, etc., so when a bank needs to verify this info before processing a payment, we will reach out to you.

Not all creators are affected by this type of payment hold. This process is more common in countries with a high rate of fraud.

What info are you asking me to share?

We may ask you to confirm any or all of the following:

  • Your date of birth
  • Your country of birth
  • The complete name of the payee listed on your account
  • Your address
  • Your nationality
  • Your passport number
  • Your national identity number

We may ask you to provide a copy of any or all of the following:

  • Your passport or other government issued ID
  • Proof of address (examples include, but are not limited to, bank statements or utility bills)

What happens after I've provided my personal info?

Once you've shared the requested info and it’s been verified, the bank that asked for the info will complete the payment process, and we’ll remove the payment hold.

Are you sharing my personal info?

The info you submit to us may be shared with a third-party (our bank or intermediary bank) in order to complete the payment process. By replying to our email with the necessary info you acknowledge and agree that this info may be shared with a third party (our bank or intermediary bank). Remember:

  • Our email will always come from an official Google email alias. For example, account-compliance@google.com. It will not come from an email address such as paymentsgoogle@gmail.com.
  • We will never ask you for your bank account details, so please be cautious of any fraudulent emails which may do this.

  • Submit your tax info as soon as you create your AdSense for YouTube account and review your info yearly.
  • Keep your contact info up to date in your account.
  • Respond promptly to any requests from Google for more info.
