The Send usage data control appears in the settings menu for many of Mozilla’s mobile products. This controls your sharing of crash, technical, testing, notifications and campaign measurement data.

Technical and interaction data

  • Mozilla receives this to improve performance and stability.
  • This data is sent by default to Mozilla from Firefox and Focus for iOS, and Firefox and Focus for Android.

  • Some of our mobile products use developer tools to evaluate the reason for crashes and improve performance and stability.
  • This data is sent to Mozilla by default from Firefox and Focus for iOS.

Feature testing and notification data

  • Some of our mobile products use developer tools to track and test different features and experiences or provide customized notifications.
  • This data is sent by default to Mozilla from Firefox for iOS and Firefox for Android.

Why do you enable data collection by default?

This helps us gain valuable insight into how our mobile products are performing so that we can improve those products.

Data collection is turned off by default in Firefox Klar. If you enable it, we will only receive the technical and interaction data described above.

Why do you use third-party platforms?

How do I turn off data collection and reporting?

You can turn off this collection and reporting in the Settings menu:

Firefox for iOS

  1. At the bottom of the screen, tap the menu button (the menu will be at the top right if you're using an iPad):

  2. Tap Settings in the menu panel.
  3. Scroll down to the Support section, and turn off Send Usage Data by sliding the toggle to the left (it will change from blue to white when it is disabled).

Firefox for Android

  1. Tap the menu button android menu icon

  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Data collection in the Privacy and Security section.
  4. You will see different types of data collection:
    • Usage and technical data: When enabled this allows Mozilla to share performance, usage, hardware and customization data about your browser to help improve Firefox.
    • Experiments: When enabled, this allows Mozilla to install and collect data for experimental features.

You can turn off any of these collection types at any time by tapping the toggle to the left (it will change from purple to white when it is disabled).

Older versions of Firefox for Android:

  1. Tap the menu button (either at the bottom right on some devices or in the upper right of the browser) followed by Settings (you may need to tap More first) .
  2. Tap on the Privacy section, scroll down and remove the check mark next to Firefox Health Report.

Firefox Focus and Firefox Klar

  1. Tap the menu icon (the three dots) and then tap Settings. If you are in the browser, you may have to hit the trash icon first.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security, scroll down to the Data Choices section, and then turn the switch off next to Send usage dataTurn the switch off next to Send usage data.
