The power of multiple CSU collaboration – Alice Hillyard, Senior Manager South West Region with NECS Consultancy, shares her experience of the benefits of the four NHS commissioning support units collaborating on the PIDMAS project. "When I was asked to step into the role of National Delivery Manager for the Patient Initiated Digital Mutual Aid (PIDMAS) project, I was both excited and a little nervous. Joining a project nine months into its 12-month journey can be daunting, especially when a lot of the groundwork has already been laid by a highly dedicated team. But as it turned out my experience on PIDMAS was nothing short of fantastic, and that’s entirely down to the brilliant people with whom I worked with from the four Commissioning Support Units (CSUs) – NECS; NHS Arden & GEM CSU; Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit; and South, Central & West CSU." I am incredibly proud to see the valuable learning and feedback emerging from the evaluation of the reverse/reciprocal mentoring programme we successfully designed and facilitated for NHS England’s Chief Pharmacy Office. Innovative net zero care pathway tool shortlisted for HSJ Partnership Award We are delighted to announce that NHS Arden & GEM’s Strategy, Innovation and Planning team has been successfully shortlisted at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2025 in the ‘Environmental Sustainability Project of the Year’ category. The shortlisted project is a collaboration between NHS Arden & GEM, the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition, Mitie and Anaplan to support the NHS to achieve its net zero target and improve sustainability by integrating carbon intelligence into planning across health and care pathways. Need help demonstrating equality, diversity and inclusion compliance? NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board needed specialist support from equality, diversity and inclusion experts to demonstrate its compliance with a range of regulatory and mandatory duties. Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) team from the collaborative Communications and Engagement service at Arden & GEM and Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit put together a tailored package of support covering delivery capacity and strategic capability. This approach has successfully delivered reporting and returns including the Public Sector Equality Duty Annual Report and the Equality Delivery System return. The process used to produce these key outputs has also helped ICB leaders in better understanding their organisation and its stakeholders to continue developing in EDI maturity. Delighted to share a comprehensive case study on successfully mapping training and career pathways for pharmacy professionals in the Midlands and East of England. In response to a perceived lack of clarity about training and education needs for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, Health Education England commissioned Arden & GEM to conduct a pilot study to explore current post-registration education and training pathways. The study used online surveys and roundtable events to test these perceptions among pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, training providers, line managers and employers, across the NHS East of England and Midlands regions. I’m humbled and grateful to have been part of today’s amazing panel on the important discussions on Islamophobia, where we engaged in a much-needed discussion about challenging negative stereotypes and fostering a more inclusive NHS and the wider society. The conversation highlighted the urgency of addressing misconceptions, building empathy, and equipping ourselves to become proactive advocates for change.
