Lewes STEM Festival 2024 took place last weekend. The event included exhibits contributed by the Universities, companies, charities, and other organisations. There were over 1300 visitors. We are proud that our members were there too! On Saturday Julie Weeds delivered her talk: 'Can you trust artificial intelligence?'. The short answer to that is....(drum roll) no! On Sunday our enthusiastic PhD Candidate Jack Speat, and students Henry Williams, Isabel Lahmann, Amy Upson presented their demos. Many thanks to you for your time and engagement! They encouraged people to generate images using a LoRA based stable diffusion model. The group discussed how stable diffusion works as well as some of the problems with it and more generally in generative AI, such as biases in training data and hallucinations.     They also demoed a CNN based classifier on the MNIST handwritten digit dataset and had attendees see if the network could correctly classify their handwritten digits. Lastly, asked attendees to think about why the classifier predicted correctly/incorrectly and how it might be improved or tricked.
