🍬 Petroleum-derived food dye Red 3, which is used in nearly 3,000 food products in the US, may soon face a ban after years of campaigns against its harmful health impacts. Carcinogenic and behaviour-altering colourants have no place in our food. Sparxell’s #bioinspired, 100% plant-based pigments offer a vibrant, natural alternative—eliminating the need for harmful, petroleum-based dyes. 🍃 While the FDA moves toward action, it’s worth noting that the EU banned Red 3 back in the 1990s, and California recently followed suit, banning this and other harmful dyes. Change is possible, and #innovation like Sparxell can help lead the way. Last week, Sparxell had the incredible honour of being selected to showcase at the Vogue Business Fashion Futures London, an exclusive event held at Somerset House. 🌍 The event brought together a dynamic mix of industry leaders, innovators, and changemakers to tackle the #fashion industry’s biggest challenges and discuss bold ideas shaping a more sustainable future. The day was packed with inspiring talks about the path forward for fashion: Helena Helmersson (Circulose) spoke about the challenges and opportunities of developing next-generation materials for the fashion industry. Nikhil Hirdaramani (Hirdaramani Group), Vincenzo Cangioli (Cangioli 1859), and Andrés Bragagnini (Apparel Impact Institute) shared essential strategies for weathering the storm with suppliers, addressing the critical need for standardisation in sustainability efforts. Amy Tsang (The Mills Fabrica), alongside Andrew Wolfson (Blueground Ventures), explored funding the future of sustainable fashion, providing advice for scaling innovation while meeting evolving market demands. Peter Semple (Depop) highlighted how creative marketing can drive mass adoption of circular fashion, offering actionable insights for the industry. Sparxell demonstrated how bold brands can achieve vibrant #colours and intricate designs without compromising on #sustainability. It was inspiring to share the space with innovators like Shannon Mercer from FibreTrace®, Irene Maffini from DyeRecycle, Julian Ellis-Brown and Antonia Jara-Contreras from Ponda, Samira Richardson, MBA, James MacDonald, and Ignacy Bartnik from Solena Materials Limited, and Idan Gal-Shohet and David Prior Hope from Fibe. The future of fashion is bright, #sustainable, and filled with possibility, and we are excited to enable this journey. #FutureOfFashion #GreenTech #Innovation #Breakthrough #CelluloseForTheWin

Pioneering eco-friendly colours with Sparxell 🌿 Sparxell is setting new standards in the colour industry with biodegradable, vegan pigments made from plant-based cellulose. These eco-friendly pigments, glitters, and films are derived from agricultural waste, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional dyes with a low carbon footprint and zero toxins. The unique process behind their pigments involves harnessing cellulose-rich sources like wood pulp, where cellulose crystals are extracted and assembled into a film that reflects light and colour over a substantial area, mimicking vibrant hues found in nature. Celebrated for its innovation, Sparxell, founded by Dr Benjamin Droguet and Professor Silvia Vignolini, won the Cambridge Enterprise Chris Abell Postdoc Business Plan Competition and is part of our investment portfolio. 👉🏼 Learn more. https://vist.ly/3mnaf2g #Sustainability #ClimateChange #Innovation #GreenTech #CambridgeEnterprise

👀 Sparxell enters a renowned Paris museum. 🖼️ We are honored to have worked with Studio Almudena Romero on the #exhibition ‘Science Fiction, A Non-History of Plants’ which is now on display at the MEP - Maison Européenne de la Photographie. The exhibition explores how integrating cutting-edge science, innovative techniques, and plant-derived materials can create imaginative and beautiful worlds. As part of that, our #plant-based vibrant colours and effects show the power of what we can create when we work alongside the natural world and harness nature’s #colours and processes. Making the future of colours very much present. 🌿A welcoming bridge between the natural world and science-fiction, the exhibition is open until the 19th of January 2025. Stop by and experience it for yourself! #BioInspired #SustainableArt #GreenTech #Photography #ParisArt
Excited to announce that Science Fiction, A Non-History of Plants is officially open at MEP - Maison Européenne de la Photographie and will be on display until January 19, 2025! A huge thank you to the brilliant team who made this exhibition possible: Victoria Aresheva, Clothilde Morette, Ghyslaine Badezet, and Simon Baker. I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out, and the catalogue is truly a work of art in itself. Sharing a few glimpses from The Museum of Plant Art’s second exhibition — such an honour to see it come to life at MEP! A special thanks to LIPME_Toulouse and Résidence 1+2, where this journey began, and to the University of Cambridge and Sparxell for the mesmerising and unique, plant-based iridescent plates.

🌍 We're thrilled to have presented Sparxell at the Blue Earth Summit in London to a full house! Our session, hosted by Sian Sutherland from PlasticFree.com, alongside speaker Prof Sally Beken, Fellow IOM3, pressed everyone to act as agents of change toward a post-plastic future — wait, not just future, but also present!⌛ It gives hope when solutions are already being deployed and scaling. Companies like RyPax with Alvin Lim, Shellworks with Amir Afshar, and the refillable Ocean Bottle are making our packaging more sustainable. BioFluff and the brilliant Roni GamZon make real and synthetic fur a thing of the past. And for the #sparkles, the bright and #colourful, Sparxell is here to offer sustainable #plantbased colour options! ✨ As part of the conversation surrounding our growing plastic and climate crisis, the relevance of what we do became even clearer. We had the chance to hear from Emily Penn, founder of eXXpedition, who sailed across the Pacific Ocean, witnessing first-hand the scale of floating synthetic waste, like our friends at Parley for the Oceans. It was a powerful reminder of the challenge we face. And also of the opportunities to seize. 👕 Millions of coloured microplastics and chemicals enter the environment each year from textiles and other industries. Their fabrication also contributes to massive amount of GHG emissions. Sparxell's #plasticfree and synthetic-free colour technology help us create a more sustainable yet colourful future. The wave of change is coming 🌊 — so let’s ride it together! #Innovative #BioInspired #Cellulose #GreenTech #ClimateTech #SustainableSolutions #BESummit24 #YayNewTech
