  • Today we are sending huge congratulations to all Fellows of the Academy honoured in His Majesty The King’s New Year Honours List. Dr John Lazar CBE FREng, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, has received a Knighthood for services to engineering and technology. Sir John, a technology pioneer and investor who took up his five-year term as President in September 2024, is the first tech entrepreneur to hold the post since the Academy was founded in 1976.   • As we wrap up an incredible year and look ahead to 2025, we want to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been part of our journey in 2024 – from Fellows and awardees to our partners, supporters, and the entire engineering community. 🌟 We’ve worked alongside brilliant individuals and organisations to invest in talent and skills, drive innovation across the UK and internationally, influence policy, and engage the public with engineering. 🌎 Some of our key milestones include: ✨ Green Future Fellowships: The launch of a £150 million, five-year programme to fund the best ideas and scalable technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. ✨ Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation: Celebrating 10 years of supporting nearly 150 entrepreneurs across 23 African countries, to develop scalable engineering solutions to local challenges. ✨ Enterprise Hub in Scotland: Opening a new hub to help engineering entrepreneurs commercialise deep-tech innovations and boost investment. ✨ Wastewater treatment report: The first of its kind, providing key insights into mitigating health risks from wastewater pollution. ✨ National Engineering Day: Unveiling a new statue of a living engineer, Alice Kan, and launching a digital artwork celebrating five extraordinary engineering role models. ✨ Innovation Late: Ending National Engineering Day with a bang – an unforgettable evening of cutting-edge engineering and tech innovations. ✨ Royal patronage: His Majesty King Charles III graciously agreeing to become Patron of the Academy.   • At the Academy we have put diversity and inclusion (D&I) at the heart of our strategy. Engineering needs people with different experiences, ideas, and perspectives so that we can respond with the best and most innovative solutions to the problems our world is facing. 2024 has been a great year for the D&I team at the Academy, and we can't wait to see what 2025 has in store.   • We are pleased to reveal our new Frontiers report, blog and seed funding awardees from our most recent Frontiers event in Australia, titled 'Empowering resilience: integrating innovation, sustainable communities, and climate adaptation strategies' event. This event was hosted in partnership with the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE). This report collates together their key findings and discussions on how we can explore innovative climate adaptation approaches to foster sustainable and resilient communities.
