  • Celebrities will be entitled to a new “right of personality” to prevent artificial intelligence companies from using their voice or image to make money without permission under plans being drawn up by ministers. As part of a shake-up of the UK’s copyright laws, anyone using AI to impersonate a celebrity for commercial gain without their permission could face legal action. The new law would be modelled on legislation in some US states that protects against the misappropriation of a person’s name, likeness, or other parts of personal identity — such as their voice, signature, likeness or photograph — for commercial benefit

  • As he prepares for the presidency, Donald Trump has promised mass deportations, the pardoning of rioters and radical changes to the civil service. But there is one change he would like to revert when he takes office. He would like to stop the clocks going forward in the spring. “The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate daylight saving time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t!” Trump declared on Friday afternoon on his social media platform Truth Social, as the light was fading on another winter’s day. “Daylight saving time is inconvenient, and very costly to our nation,” he added

  • Sports psychologists play a critical part in getting the best performance out of professional athletes and premiership teams. Now esports is undergoing a similar trend so that competitive video gamers can stay focused and hold their nerve under pressure. A degree in esports psychology is starting at a UK university, which it claims is the first of its kind in the world. Graduates will be poised to become performance coaches or wellbeing consultants for professional esports athletes. The BSc course, which starts next September at the University of Chichester, will bridge the gap between psychological science and the rapidly expanding world of competitive video gaming

  • The American healthcare industry, worth $4.5tr, is the country’s largest private employer and makes up more than 17% of the economy. It is also the source of a frustration so deep and widespread that when Brian Thompson, the chief executive of the insurer UnitedHealthcare, was gunned down on a busy New York street last week, the public reaction was strikingly divided. The system of American healthcare has been described for years as “broken” by practitioners, politicians and the public. Here are a three anecdotal real-life scenarios: can you guess the personal costs each patient faced? 👇

America’s latest chicken export, Chick-fil-A, is a fast-food phenomenon that has more than 2,800 restaurants throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada; it served 2.1bn guests last year. As part of plans to expand its global footprint, the company is launching in some of the UK’s biggest cities next year, with five restaurants set to open in London, Leeds, Liverpool and Belfast over the next couple of years as part of a $100m investment in Britain. This is second time lucky for Chick-fil-A, whose initial debut in the form of a pop-up restaurant that opened in Reading’s Oracle shopping centre in 2019 made headlines for the wrong reasons. The launch was overshadowed by a showing of LGBT campaigners following comments made by its then chief executive Dan Cathy claiming that same-sex marriage was an act of arrogance against God, as well as the company’s links to certain Christian organisations and charities

The Duke of York listed a Buckingham Palace address for the Chinese arm of his start-up funding company for years despite instructions to stop in 2019, The Times can reveal. Pitch@Palace Global, Prince Andrew’s Dragon’s Den-style project which connected fledgling businesses with investors, was put “on pause” in 2021 after his disastrous Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis about his connections to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier. Despite questions about his continuing royal status, documents show he retained an interest in a Chinese company, Pitch at Palace Hong Kong Limited, which listed his address for service as Buckingham Palace
