About us
The Friends of The Wisdom Hospice is a Charity dedicated to supporting the work of the Wisdom Hospice, providing specialised end of life care and support to local people, their families, friends and carers whether at home, in the hospice or hospital. The Wisdom Hospice was the vision of a local resident, Molly Wisdom, after she was diagnosed with cancer, and recognised the need for a hospice in the Medway and Swale area.... She and others began raising money, she was reluctant to use her own name for the fund. Everyone explained that “Wisdom” was an ideal name, so the monies were called the Wisdom Fund for a hospice. Eventually the building work was complete and the hospice was officially opened on the 31st October 1984, by HM The Queen. The Friends of the Wisdom Hospice was initially run and managed by a group of volunteers until it was agreed that some part-time, paid assistance was needed. Since then, the Friends team has grown and there are now 6 paid members of staff and 11 Trustee Directors who provide vital support. The Wisdom Hospice is now run by the Palliative Care Services of the Medway Community Healthcare.

📚🌟 Reflecting on a Successful Strategic Planning Workshop! 🌟📚 On Wednesday, 11 December 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting our Trustees and Staff Joint Planning Workshop at the Bridgewood Manor Hotel & Spa. This was a fantastic opportunity for Trustees, Charity Staff, and Medway Community Healthcare Staff to come together, collaborate, and set a clear and inspiring direction for our future. We worked together on some essential objectives: 🔍 Understanding the Hospice’s needs for the years ahead and how we can best support them. 🌐 Exploring external factors that could shape our journey, identifying both opportunities and challenges in the environment in which we operate. 🏛️ Aligning our shared purpose and vision for the next three years, looking ahead to 2027. 📊 Identifying strengths, weaknesses, and priorities to ensure we’re positioned for success over the next 12 months. It was incredible to see the energy, passion, and dedication in the room. The open discussions, fresh insights, and collective determination made this workshop truly effective and inspiring. We left with a stronger sense of purpose and a clear action plan to continue serving our community and advancing the vital work of the Hospice. A huge thank you to everyone who participated.
