Energy & Utility Skills 2023 Inclusion Measurement Framework identified that women now make up 30% of the energy and utilities sector workforce - up from 26% in 2022. This is a positive step but, when compared to the UK average of 48%, there is still work to be done for the sector to be reflective of the communities it serves. Bristol Energy Cooperative’s (BEC) webinar “Your chance to be part of the solution” about their 10th #Share offer was great team presentation by Helen Martin, Naomi Collins, and Will Houghton,* with an excellent Q&A following. BEC is a community-owned enterprise that was established in 2011 and now has c1,700 #InvestorMembers. BEC has brought 20 solar and battery projects online, generating enough clean, home-grown electricity to power the equivalent of over 3,500 homes. With the backing of West of England Combined Authority, BEC have recently installed 560 PV panels for Great Western Air Ambulance Charity. BEC are now raising £1,000,000 to fund a pipeline of solar PV projects, including care homes, a city college, sustainable business premises, and a school partnership. These clean, #CommunityEnergy projects will power nearly 300 homes and direct an estimated £130,000 into other community projects. The withdrawable Shares have a projected 6% return with annual interest payments starting in October 2025. The minimum investment is £100 and the maximum investment is £100,000. There is a 3-year period before applications to withdraw the shares can be made and withdrawals are subject to Board approval. The offer closes on 31 October 2024. Following the publication of PwC’s Energy Survey 2024, I was delighted to be able to speak to Vicky Parker and Quentin Cole to discuss National Grid’s priorities for delivering the energy transition and how we are working with the government and regulator to reform the system.   The energy transition is one of the biggest challenges facing the UK and decarbonising our energy network lies at the heart of delivering it. In this video, we discuss how prioritising planning, connecting renewable energy to the grid, boosting skills and securing supply chain capacity are all key to accelerating the transition to net zero in the UK. #Energy #EnergyTransition

𝐆𝐁 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲...𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥 It was great to spend time with Chair of Great British Energy Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng this morning, hearing first hand his perspectives on GBE’s scope, ambition and challenges. I was able to share details about the Chamber, our work on behalf of members and role in the regional economic partnership. And to reinforce that the globally unique energy eco-system in the North-east of Scotland is already progressing the transition agenda and stands ready to support GBE in turbocharging our future energy ambitions. Of course, I caveated this by discussing the potential ‘gap’ that was being caused by current oil & gas fiscal policy and rhetoric that risks seeing the capital, people, supply chain businesses and equipment needed to accelerate clean energy projects in the North Sea being lost overseas or perhaps altogether. We discussed our submission to the Great British Energy Bill Call for Written Evidence and the work being led by British Chambers of Commerce on securing the long-term future for North Sea energy production. I reiterated that the AGCC team is here to support GBE in any way we can. From convening the supply chain to communicating key messages through our media channels. From sector research to providing collateral to attract staff to relocate here. And from playing a role in inward investment activity to advising on future office accommodation. On the latter point, I was delighted to hear Juergen confirm his commitment to support our efforts to reenergise and repopulate Aberdeen city centre by locating the GBE HQ there. I'm proud of the strides we've made with our latest Climate Transition Plan (CTP). Our CTP document summarises really clearly the different buckets of our emissions, the progress we have made, and our plans for dealing with each one. We set out clearly the dependencies and trade-offs involved, including the policy and regulatory support needed. We have also aligned our plan with the newest Transition Plan Taskforce guidance. We are focused on delivering net zero whilst maintaining reliability and affordability. #ClimateLeadership #NetZero

It's great that we're seeing trust being regained in energy suppliers. They have an important role to play in the energy transition, and with their intimate customer touchpoint are well placed to be supporting the move to net zero by engaging customers with excellent experiences, information and support.
