Today is World Conjoined Twins Day and we’re honouring it by looking back on a very special moment. Our specialist teams at GOSH have separated over 40 sets of conjoined twins, thanks to expertise in many, many teams, including orthopaedics, haematology, urology, general surgery, plastics, anaesthetics, and intensive care. Recently the Specialist Neonatal and Paediatric Surgery (SNAPS) team brought together six sets of conjoined twins and their families for a unique, multi-disciplinary day of appointments. It was a chance to connect, share experiences, and spend time with the specialists who support their journeys. “It was a great day to have the twins and their families together to celebrate how well they are all doing.” Joe Curry, Consultant Neonatal and Paediatric Surgery. “It’s impossible to list all those involved in their care, but we’re lucky that GOSH is one of the few places in the world that has so many skilled teams under one roof to separate conjoined twins and give them the best possible treatment.” All six sets of twins continue to be treated by our teams at GOSH.
