I was interested in understanding more about the flags of African nations, so I designed this map to feature the current flags of these countries, as well as supranational and international African flags. Each flag's design includes colours and symbolism inherent to its country's political, military and religious history. Many flags include the pan-Arab colours of black, white, green and red; some include the Islamic symbols of the crescent and star (e.g. Tunisia, Algeria, the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Libya). I've acknowledged the flag of Somaliland (an 'unrecognised sovereign state') as well as the flag of the Republic of Cabinda, an unrecognised state which Angola considers it's 'Cabinda Province'.
