What I’m working on now

Inspired by Derek Sivers, this page includes a sample of what I’m thinking about and working on right now. Last updated: November 30th, 2015.

Every week I try to write a few things for my blog. Sometimes these are medium-length essays about technology, and sometimes they are just microblog posts about everyday events. I don’t have ads and I don’t have a huge following, but it’s still one of the most important things I do each week.

I just wrapped up a brand new iPhone app for a client. The project was a little late, and unbelievably we were still adding features in the final weeks, but overall it has been a good experience. I’m looking forward to seeing the reaction in the App Store and where they take it. (A previous client app went through 3 project managers and had many problems. But that’s how it goes. We wouldn’t learn to become better programmers if we didn’t have some slight regret on previous projects.)

As one project wraps up, a new one starts. I’m happy to be busy with consulting for the next couple months. The new project is an unusual one for me, but it has some neat technology and is a really good opportunity for me to learn new APIs. I’m currently implementing some screens from the designer.

I usually take my kids to school in the morning, or they take the bus, and then I’ll try to work out of the house for a few hours at a coffee shop. I find that being in a new environment helps me stay inspired and productive.

I’ve been writing a lot about microblogging and actively working on a new project around microblogging for over a year. I think it’s the next step for the open web. If you want more info, sign up for the announce mailing list. I’m also writing a book that will go up on Kickstarter soon.

My indie apps are in a little bit of disarray while my attention is scattered. I planned to shutdown both Watermark and Tweet Library, but have yet to do that. I may even update Tweet Library for the iPad Pro. Clipstart 2.0 is in development but late, as usual. Sometime before the end of the year I need to lock myself away and just code on Clipstart for a few solid days.

Daniel Jalkut and I continue to churn out an episode of Core Intuition every week. I’m very proud of this podcast. We’re currently booked for sponsors through the beginning of 2016 and plan to start allowing 2 sponsors per show to meet demand. We also run the companion jobs site.

At night, I spend time with the family, remind the kids to do homework instead of watching Netflix endlessly, and then ignore my own advice as I catch up on blogs or code a little while watching basketball. Go Spurs Go.
