With several high-speed internet plans at different price points, Xfinity is a good internet provider option. It’s coverage is widespread and it offers TV, phone and home security bundles, which makes it convenient.

Xfinity’s internet is fast and reliable, but advertised prices can be misleading. Xfinity often has deals and promotions for plans that require a one- or two-year contract. Once the contract is up, prices spike without an increase in internet quality. So although prices may seem incredibly low, customers still pay more over time.

Founded in 1963, Comcast Corp is the largest multinational telecommunications company in the nation. In 2010, Comcast introduced Xfinity, the brand name for its internet, TV, phone and home security service.

With over 32 million customers in 2022, Comcast Xfinity is the most-used broadband provider in the U.S. and one of the best internet companies around. 

It’s available in 35 states, including Washington D.C., and in many parts of the country, it’s the only top-speed internet provider available. The company mostly utilizes coaxial cables for connectivity, which facilitates fast downloads. Uploads, however, are significantly slower. 

Xfinity offers plans covering a wide range of speed and connectivity, ranging from minimal connectivity for a handful of devices to lightning-fast cable connections with unlimited device connections.

Plans start at $19.99 per month for new customers, but that price is only locked in for the first year. At that point, your monthly bill will go up. This is a common issue with Comcast Xfinity internet plans.

There is a data cap of 1.2TB per month. If you exceed that amount, Xfinity will charge a fee. Luckily, 1.2 TB per month is more than sufficient for the average internet user.

Comcast Xfinity also offers TV, phone and home security services, which can be bundled with its internet plans.

Xfinity customers can bundle internet and TV services. For an extra set amount per month, users can stream live sports, movies and shows when they sign up for an internet plan.

The exact price depends on where you live and how many channels you want. In Washington, for example, it’s an extra $20 a month for 10+ TV channels and an extra $50 a month for 125+ channels.

Home Phone as an Add-On

Add home phone service to your Comcast Xfinity plan with Xfinity Voice. You can transfer your current home phone number to a new address or get a new one.

Xfinity home phone service allows you to see caller ID on your TV, manage service through the Xfinity Connect Web Portal, and block spam calls easily. You can also check your home phone voicemail from anywhere as long as you have access to your web portal account.

Xfinity Mobile

Xfinity offers a mobile phone service, Xfinity Mobile, with plans ranging from $30 per month per line to $50 per month per line. You can also opt for Xfinity Mobile’s “By the Gig” plan, which starts at $15 per month.

The Connect More plan from Xfinity can handle up to five devices at once. With maximum download speeds of 200 Mbps, users can download shows and movies quickly and stream high-quality videos on multiple devices. This plan can also accommodate multiplayer gaming.

For these reasons, we found that the Connect More plan was best for families, particularly with people who regularly use the internet to stream, game, join video meetings and more. 

Fast Plan – Downloading Made Easy

If you’re regularly downloading large files, like high-resolution photos and TV shows, the Fast Plan is for you. With 400 Mbps download speeds, you can connect up to eight devices at once and stream on multiple devices.

Superfast Plan – Perfect for Large Households

Xfinity’s Superfast plan offers download speeds of up to 800 Mbps. Up to 11 devices can connect at a time without lagging on this plan. It’s great for quick downloads, streaming on multiple devices at once and multiplayer gaming.

Comcast Xfinity Internet is available in a majority of the continental U.S. with coverage in 35 states, including Washington D.C.

Download speeds for Xfinity internet plans range from 75 Mbps to 2,000 Mbps. Upload speeds are significantly slower at around 35 Mbps for each plan. 

While its upload speeds are relatively slow, they’re sufficient for most tasks. Users can still live stream, upload a YouTube video or join HD video calls easily, but uploading a long, high-quality video will take some extra time.

Xfinity Internet Contracts, Equipment, Fees and Hardware

Xfinity requires contracts for their plans. Depending on the plan you purchase, your contract will be one or two years. After that time, your plan is subject to change, meaning you might experience a different internet speed and a bigger bill. To stay on top of your internet plan, set a reminder to check in and call Xfinity every year.

Xfinity users can also opt to rent equipment from the provider if they don’t have their own modem or Wi-Fi router. The Xfinity Gateway is the provider’s internet modem and Wi-Fi router in one.

But if you’re not worried about scoring the best deal or taking advantage of promotions, signing up for a plan is easy enough on the Xfinity website.

We found that Xfinity Internet has confusing pricing models, with monthly bills often increasing sharply after a year or two of service. The deals and promotions are enticing, but they’re still expensive in the long run.
