What Pests Are Treated By Aptive Environmental

Aptive treats the most common household pests. The company only treats termites in the Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus areas. Aptive treats common pests like ants, spiders, cockroaches, rodents, wasps, snails, flies, fleas, and ticks. The company has the full list of pests it treats on its company website. 

Aptive does not treat bees and any wood-destroying pests like termites, carpenter bees, or carpenter ants or any wildlife animals like squirrels, racoons, chipmunks, rabbits, birds, deer, etc.

Termites – Limited Areas in Ohio

Termites cause more than $5 billion in property damage each year. Aptive does not treat termites except for homeowners living in the Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus areas.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches are known to survive just about anything and are tough to handle and can spread disease. To treat cockroaches, Aptive uses a combination of dusting treatments and bait options around entryways in the homes, furniture and in dark and damp places. 

Rats

Common rodents Aptive treats are deer mice, house mice, Norway rats, roof rats and voles. They use snap traps with various kinds of food and bait items and set traps away from pets or children.

Aptive Environmental Plans and Services

Aptive’s pest control plans are available in three options, the Basic, Pro+ Plan and the Premium Plan. 

The Basic Plan provides standard pest control treatment and targets common pests. It covers every 50 to 80 days and add ons include outdoor rodents, pantry pests, aphids, snails and slugs. 

The Pro Plan treats the same pests as the above plan. Add-ons include mosquitoes.  The biggest difference between the Basic and Pro plans appears to be that there are follow-up treatments every 30 to 60 days, April through October and 50 to 80 days from November through March with the Pro plan.

The Premium Plan includes everything the Pro Plan covers, plus mosquitoes, but retreating occurs about every 20 to 40 days from April through October and every 50 to 80 days November through March. This plan allows customized treatments and priority scheduling. Since Aptive uses contracts, cancellations will cost customers a cancellation fee.

If homeowners have any problems between visits, the company will visit their house without charging a fee. The company does not have any pest-specific plans.

The website is easy to navigate, and getting service is pretty straightforward. Customers can click on a specific pest to learn more about it and how Aptive treats it. There is also an FAQ section about the pest and curated articles about it from their experts.

An online account can be created by current customers, including setting up paperless billing and customers can pay online and see recent bills.

What We Like About Aptive Environmental

We like that Aptive is a member of the EPA’s Environmental Stewardship Program, and has a strong commitment to safe and responsible pest control practices and guidelines. The company’s flexible and customizable service plans are a great option for customers looking for a treatment plan that works with their pest issues and needs.  

We also like that Aptive focuses on seasonal treatments and understands that different seasons may bring about different pests so keeping on top of them is key. Its approach using preventive measures, modification of habitat and targeted treatments is a good strategy to keep pests away all year long.  Also, we really liked that Aptive will re-treat your home at no additional cost until your home is adequately rid of pests.

What We Didn’t Like About Aptive Environmental

We did not like that Aptive does not treat bed bugs, bees, termites or wildlife. This puts it at a major disadvantage when compared to the big two that cover a wide range of pests: Terminix and Orkin. Aptive’s availability nationwide is also a disadvantage since it is only available in certain regions. It is also not clear if a one-time service is an option for customers. Lastly, its prices may be higher than local competitors, which can be an issue for those on a budget, but that will be up to customers to get specific quotes.

Aptive,  generally gets mixed reviews from customers. Aptive is not accredited by the BBB and receives a A- rating. It has a 3.88 out of 5 rating from customers on that platform. Positive reviews mention helpful techs and prompt service. More critical reviews take issue with the company’s treatments and cost transparency. 

However, because it has many local branches, reviews will vary by location. We recommend seeking out reviews for your local Aptive office and assessing its strengths and weaknesses from there.

Once you receive a scheduled visit, your service starts with an initial inspection. A professional will visit your home and inspect the home, treat the foundation and physically remove any nests, webs or any type of bug evidence of pests taking residence in or around your home. Following your initial inspection, a professional will visit your home more regularly, based on your plan, for treatments, re-baiting and preventative maintenance.  

The company states that initial treatment and inspection typically take less than 60 minutes to complete. The service professional does a full scan of the home and property to devise a plan of treatment needed to address the issue. Standard treatments can usually take less than 30 minutes.

Aptive Environmental vs. Orkin and Terminix

All three service a majority of states, but Aptive has the least number of states covered at only 34 states. Only Orkin provides a money-back guarantee and only Terminix provides free inspections. Orkin and Terminix are industry leaders in the pest control category and Aptive is a newcomer to the industry.

However, Aptive’s use of naturally derived pest control solutions can be a big draw for customers concerned about the environment. But its limited list of pests handled, especially in comparison to Orkin and Terminix, is a major downside. Orkin and Terminix tackle some of the most invasive pests, like bed bugs and termites. 

Terminix and Orkin have been in the business for a long time and have extensive expertise and demonstrated specialty in handling various pest problems. Aptive’s strongest asset is its environmental commitment.

Aptive may not be a good choice for customers who would rather not pay for an initial inspection. It’s also not for customers looking for termite or bed bug treatment. It is not clear if the company offers a one-time service either, which deter some customers.
