Get ready for an upgrade that will enhance your Google Home experience!1 We're thrilled to announce that Gemini, our next-generation AI, is arriving to Google Home, bringing a wave of innovative features designed to make your life easier and more connected.
Additionally, we have lots of other exciting features to share with you to make your smart home experience one to write home about.
AI Camera Search: Know More, Scroll Less
As we announced this August, Gemini is bringing new capabilities to your cameras. Starting this week, they can move beyond just recognizing people, packages, and motion. They'll actually start to understand what's happening, like whether your dog is napping peacefully or digging up your prize-winning petunias.
This means a few exciting things are coming your way:
- AI descriptions: Your camera clips in the Google Home app can have detailed descriptions if you want them and opt in, making it easier to find what you're looking for.2
- Search camera history: You can search your camera history using simple questions like, "Did the kids play in the backyard this afternoon?" or "Was a delivery truck here today?"2
As Gemini continues to learn and evolve, your Nest cameras will become even more helpful and insightful. We're thrilled to bring this next generation of intelligence to your home, while keeping your data safe and private.
Select Nest Aware Plus users will be able to opt in to test these experimental AI features in their Google Home app as part of Public Preview. Available for now to US users in English only. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue the rollout!
Automate Home Automation: Help Me Create
We’re excited to introduce “Help me create,” a new feature powered by Gemini, coming soon to the Google Home app. As we shared, this feature is going to make automating your home easier than ever. You will be able to simply describe what you want using natural language. Imagine creating automations in seconds that used to take minutes!3 We’re making it easier than ever to personalize your smart home experience.
For example, you could type:
Security:
- Remember to lock up at night
- Make it seem like someone’s home
Health and Wellness:
- Help me sleep better
- Set up morning workouts
Convenience at Home:
- Announce dinner time
Getting Things Done:
- Remind me to take out the trash
- Help me remember to pick up packages
No more complicated menus or settings to figure out. And if you're not sure what to automate, Google Home can even give you personalized suggestions based on your devices and how you use them.
We're starting to roll this out to a small group of Nest Aware Plus subscribers in Public Preview later this year, in the Home app on Android, in English and US only to start. Keep an eye out for it, and let us know what you create!4
And that's not all! We're also introducing exciting updates like:
- Google Home extension for Gemini app: Get an extra hand around the house right in the Gemini app on your phone.1 Use it to control your lights, thermostats, blinds, and more.3,4 Available now in the Gemini app for Android users who are opted into Public Preview.
- Nest Cam and Doorbell feed on your Pixel Watch: See who's at the door right from your wrist. Get a live view of Nest cameras and doorbells with the Google Home app for Wear OS. Talk and listen with people on the other side of their devices, through your watch. Available first on Pixel Watch 3.8,9
- Nest Doorbell notifications on Pixel Tablet:Your Pixel Tablet can show you who’s at the front door when someone rings the doorbell. Talk to them with two-way talk or send a Quick Response.7
- The dream clock on Pixel Tablet: Analog or digital, it's always on - even while the tablet is idle and charging. Available globally.
- Home panel screen saver for Pixel Tablet: Easily access and control your smart home devices with a new home panel screensaver.
- Home panel on Google TV: Manage your home without missing a scene. It’s even easier to control your smart home devices6,8 from your TV with the home panel. Dim the lights or check a camera’s live view without pausing your shows
- Enhanced overviews on Google TV: Thanks to Gemini technology, Google TV, including the new Google TV streamer10, can now bring you full summaries, reviews and season-by-season breakdowns of some of the top movies and TV shows.
- Google Home app Favorites widget on Android and iOS: Access your most important smart home devices6 right from your home screen. Quickly control the things that matter most.8 Available now on Android, and on iOS in Public Preview.
- Member access: Member access lets you share your smart home with those you trust, without giving anyone more control than they need. Choose between full Admin access or customizable Member access (like for roommates, kids, grandparents, babysitters, etc.) when you add a new person to your Google Home.8 Coming soon.7
- Improved media controls for Google Home app: Control your media playback with refreshed media controls, including vibrant artwork and colors, an easy-to-use interface, and faster performance.5
