Secluded on a private island, Red reunites with an old flame and a ring of thieves in a plot to make millions off stolen art. Plans are quickly derailed, however, when guests on the island mysteriously show up dead.

Tess splits with Fin and is also not happy when bitchy actress Nora tries to steal her limelight at rehearsals. Sam plans a big night out for Cat's birthday, unaware that Cat has spent the afternoon in bed with Frankie. They are seen by Tess, who agrees to keep quiet but, returning home, Cat is hit by a car. She is rushed to hospital where she is treated by Lexy and her gay colleague Declan but to no avail. Frankie is reluctant to attend the funeral and is persuaded by Sadie to go but she sneaks in at the back, drunk, and only stays a few minutes. Another visit to Alma ends in rejection and a distraught Frankie returns to Sadie, claiming that, had Cat not been with her that afternoon, she would still be alive.

After Alma tells her she wants no further contact as her husband is unaware of her past life a devastated Frankie returns to New York, swearing Tess to secrecy about her resumed affair with Cat. Her room in the flat-share is taken by Sadie, who fails an interview to write for Minus 21 magazine but later cops off with its editor Lauren, despite Lauren being spoken for. Lexy also enjoys noisy sex with colleague Bea, though she too has a wife. Tess invites Ed to go drinking with her stage crowd and, whilst Tess has platonic fun with the kindly Hugh, Ed goes home with Nina. Sam, however, despite counselling and a parental visit, is still finding Cat's death hard to accept.

Tess feels left out as Ed dates Nina so they fix her up on a date with Nina's friend Meg but Meg is extremely weird and, helped by Lexy, Tess feigns illness to get rid of her. Lexy herself asks Sam to a wine-tasting, making Bea jealous. The session is pretentious and the pair are evicted for laughing, going for a drink together. Here Lexy tells Sam that she believes she has a stalker, who leaves anonymous notes and phone calls. Later, Sam, going through Cat's belongings, sees the evidence of Cat's infidelity with Frankie. Sadie meanwhile is given a job in an art gallery by Jo, whom she meets at a party. Sadie accepts but Lauren is not happy because Jo is her partner.

Sam confronts Tess over her knowledge of Cat and Frankie's affair, alienating herself from the flatmates. At work she is stressed, attacking a suspected drug dealer and Ed's peace-making efforts are in vain. Lexy is shocked to find that her stalker is the husband of Bea, whom she had assumed was a lesbian but has a child whom she will not leave. Tess consoles Lexy and at Ed's book launch they grow close but Tess is called away by a drunken Hugh roping her to get revenge on his ex-wife, Ed himself dumping Nina after he is perturbed by her total selfishness. Sadie meanwhile impresses Jo with her initiative at the gallery whilst enjoying afternoon delight with Lauren behind her back.

Tess is nervous about her first night in 'Uncle Vanya' but, despite having to hold up a drunken Hugh anxious to win his wife back and survive a sabotage attempt by Nora, she is a great success. Sam leads a drugs raid in which colleague Vince is injured and she blames herself for being preoccupied with Cat. She turns to Lexy for consolation, and a passionate session, whilst Lexy fixes Declan up with the radiographer he fancies. Lauren rejects Sadie after she has stolen an expensive watch to impress her. As a result, Sadie robs the art gallery and does a runner.

Bernard is struggling to cope with getting down to menial but essential tasks for his book shop, such as the accounts when a chance meeting with a customer, Manny, helps him out. Meanwhile, the owner of the shop next door, enlists the help of Bernard and his customers to find out exactly what an object from her shop is and in doing so misses an important appointment.

Bernard wakes up to discover that he has a new employee for his book shop, who infuriatingly has great skill at selling books. While Bernard is reluctant to keep him on, Fran makes her feelings clear on the matter.

After Manny calls a cleaner to the shop, he and Bernard must vacate it. Luckily they are asked to house sit for a friend. Meanwhile Fran goes on an ill-fated date.

Manny stays up watching 'The Sweeney' and is mistaken for a policeman after chasing a handbag snatcher. Fran and Bernard exchange stories about their previous day, Bernard recalling a disastrous dinner party with old friends who blanked him and Fran telling him about blanking her boyfriend after catching him with another woman.

Following a burglary Bernard buys a sophisticated alarm system which results in Manny getting locked inside the shop and Bernard stuck outside in the rain. Fran is no help as she took her phone off the hook to listen to the sexy man reading the shipping forecast.

Manny finally gets fed up with Bernard's constant abuse and demands on him so he leaves for a better life. However, he doesn't get far when he meets a man at King's Cross station who wants to make him a star. Meanwhile back at the shop Fran and Bernard are arguing more and more about Manny's departure.

Fran decides to take up piano lessons with a very prominent teacher, however all doesn't go to plan and she ends up having to ask Manny for a favour. Meanwhile Bernard asks a girl out and once again Manny is called upon for a favour.

On a scorching hot day, Manny tries to maintain his body temperature so it doesn't go over 88 degrees; Fran has problems with a new neighbour, and Bernard tries to find an appropriate "summer girl".

Bernard and Manny have to deal with a gangster turned writer who plans to hold a reading of his autobiography at the book shop, however he can't read. Meanwhile Fran gets an office job where she isn't quite sure what she is meant to be doing.

Manny and Bernard try to keep up with modern book shops and in doing so Manny helps Fran get over her boredom by encouraging her to look up her family tree.

Fran tries to cleanse her lifestyle by taking up yoga and going on a radical diet, while Bernard and Manny receive some books on Freud and their lives descend into his famous theories.

When construction starts next door to the shop, Manny, Bernard and Fran try to decide what to do while it continues.

Rue returns home from rehab and meets Jules; Nate and Maddy attempt to make each other jealous; Kat is pressured to lose something.

On the first day of school, Rue struggles to put the past behind her; Nate's obsessions turn violent; Kat finds a video of her online.

Kat starts camming; Jules falls for a boy online; Rue is confronted about her lies at NA; Cassie and McKay spend the weekend at his college.
