The world of Doctor Who is one of boundless imagination, where the limits of time and space are pretty much non-existent due to the timelessness of the Doctor. However, when it comes to the fandom, pleasing the fandom can be just as complex and tumultuous as the time vortex itself. Every time there is supposed to be a new doctor, there are more chances of it becoming a polarizing event rather than the one fans would be appreciative of.

So, while in recent years, Jodi Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa have been the ones to face such backlash over their casting, there was another actor who, after stepping into the Tardis after David Tennant, became the target of scrutiny for being too young for the role.

Young Jedi Adventures returned for a second season in August 2024, and I looked forward to it. Having gotten on board with Kai, Brightstar Lys Solay, and Nubs and self-identifying as a green-eyed adventurer with red hair like Nash Durango, I looked forward to seeing what came next.
Here are the 5 best moments of Young Jedi Adventures Season 2.1. Nubs-tacle Course
This short, released before the rest of the season, shows Nubs in a familiar situation. Nubs is my favorite for his tendency to work through discouragement and this was no exception. He tries his best to excel or even complete an obstacle course that comes easily to Kai Brightstar. He gives in to understandable frustration when persistence doesn't pay off. In the end, he is able to stay calm and use his trust in the Force to succeed but then refuses to do it again. I could definitely relate.

Meanwhile “Conclave,” Focus Features’ Papal mystery-thriller from Edward Berger set within the Vatican, has 14, including best film, director and leading actor for Ralph Fiennes.
Further down, a tight pack of films includes “The Substance,” “The Brutalist” and “A Complete Unknown” on 11 lists, “Wicked” and “Dune: Part Two” on 10 and “Anora” and “Gladiator 2” on nine. It has been a marvelous year for Star Wars fans. Books explored new territory, comics took us to dark places, and the TV shows made us think and laugh in equal measure. Rather than fill in a blank for every standard award category, I thought it would be good to assign a special award for each project of 2024.
Here are the best Star Wars moments from 2024.

One of the first big adventures of the millennial era began with Christopher Eccleston’s Doctor Who. The sci-fi series was a formative part of the entertainment industry’s growth and evolution through the ’90s and as for the audience, Doctor Who remains an ingrained part of pop culture’s collective memory.

Meanwhile, Christopher Eccleston made the role his own by imbuing the Ninth Doctor with a trait that was individually characteristic of his personality. However, as a veteran actor, his foray into light comedy with a hint of political commentary came at a cost. At the time, Eccleston was not yet cracked up for the role of the Time Lord and keeper of the Tardis. And he knew it too.

Last week, Young Jedi Adventures received four The Children's & Family Emmy Awards nominations. It joins a respectful list of Star Wars animation that has received both nominations and awards from the Emmys. What other TV series have been honored by the Academy?
Here is every Star Wars Emmy Award win or nomination
As early 2013, Star Wars: The Clone Wars received several nominations and awards for both animation and children's programming for the Daytime Emmys. It was nominated 15 times during its run and won five times during that span. The wins included winning Outstanding Special Class Animated Program twice.
David Tennant, who has voiced the droid Huyang on The Clone Wars, Ahsoka, and Young Jedi Adventures, won Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program in 2013 for voicing the character during the series's fifth season. It wouldn’t be Christmas without a Doctor Who special, and a new one, “Joy to the World,” starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor and guest starring Nicola Coughlan, is set to arrive on Disney+ on Christmas Day. How will it compare to the rest? We’ll have to wait and see. But when TV Insider spoke with showrunner Russell T Davies and former showrunner and this special’s writer Steven Moffat, we had to ask which of each other’s Christmas episodes is their favorite. Moffat named “The Christmas Invasion,” which introduced David Tennant as the Doctor after the Ninth Doctor’s (Christopher Eccleston) regeneration in 2005, and for Davies, while he enjoyed “Joy to the World,” his pick was “A Christmas Carol,” Matt Smith‘s first holiday special as the Time Lord in 2010. It’s not just that Moffat considers “The Christmas Invasion” to be “a wonderful episode,” he explains.

Jim Parsons’ career-defining role was Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, a show that effortlessly combined awkward humor and brainy jokes. He played a socially awkward yet overly intelligent physicist and throughout his time on the show, he captured millions of hearts. At his peak, Parsons was earning $1 million per episode!
The Big Bang Theory | Warner Bros. Television
It’s an achievement that only a few could reach in the show business, but he wasn’t driven by money. He made surprising career decisions, like taking an exit from the sitcom that took him to marvelous heights. But throughout all this, his love for things that brought him joy did not diminish.

It's the most wonderful time of the year as Disney has released the full trailer for the Doctor Who Christmas special that doubles the Doctors!
When the BBC revived the iconic sci-fi series Doctor Who in 2005, Christopher Eccleston was cast as the titular time-traveling alien. The first season ended in a big twist with the Doctor regenerating into a new actor, David Tennant.
The producers decided to craft a Christmas-themed special, "The Christmas Invasion," to serve as Tennant's first full turn as the Doctor. It was such a hit that afterward, a Christmas Doctor Who special became a tradition, an extra-long episode to show the Doctor involved in some adventure at Christmas time.
Some specials are stand-alone adventures, but others are quite important. The 2009, 2013 and 2017 specials all involved the Doctor experiencing another regeneration. Last year's special was the first full one for Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor and introduced Millie Gibson as his companion,...

Peter Capaldi portrayed the 12th Doctor in 39 episodes of Doctor Who, from 2013 to 2017. His run was a mixed bag, but fans still look back on his era with good memories. And unlike previous Doctors David Tennant and Matt Smith, Capaldi has not reprised his role for a cameo since leaving, and he doesn't really have any inclination to do so.
What Capaldi has over other Doctors is a rich history of playing other characters throughout the Whoniverse. Way back in 2008, he played Roman merchant Caecilius in "The Fires of Pompeii," opposite David Tennant's version of the Doctor. And then a year later he played key character John Frobisher on spinoff series Torchwood: Children of Earth.
Given Capaldi's tendencies to keep coming back to Doctor Who, fans are hoping he'll one day make a triumphant return as the Doctor himself. In the Whoniverse, anything is possible. I mean, David Tennant returned...

Way back in 2008, he played Roman merchant Caecilius in "The Fires of Pompeii," opposite David Tennant's version of the Doctor. And then a year later he played key character John Frobisher on spinoff series Torchwood: Children of Earth.

Ready for more tales from the Rutshire Chronicles? Well, the folks at Disney+ and Hulu certainly are. After winning legions of fans with its lethally entertaining cocktail of sex, scandal, soapy melodrama, and tack-sharp writing, Rivals — a titillating TV take on Jilly Cooper's bestselling, 80s set bonkbusters — has scored a Season 2 renewal from the streaming powers that be.
Beginning with Alex Hassell's bare backside and, er, climaxing with a doozy of a cliffhanger, Rivals kind of came out of nowhere and took us all by surprise as we suddenly found ourselves intensely invested in some period regional TV rights argy-bargy between ex-Olympic rider Rupert Campbell-Black (Hassell) and TV station controller Lord Tony Baddingham (Tennant). Now, we don't know when exactly Season 2 of Rivals will hit our screens, or indeed whether [Redacted] will return after [Redacted] bonked [Redacted] with [Redacted], but so long as we get more of Danny Dyer and Katherine Parkinson...

Jilly Cooper fans have reason to rejoice: “Rivals” is returning for a second season.

Known for his creative flair and business acumen as much as for his talent for throwing the best parties, French entrepreneur and producer Pascal Breton is celebrating a milestone in the 11-year history of his Paris-based Federation Studios. That is the launch of “The Agency,” the anticipated U.S. remake of “Le Bureau des Legendes” starring Michael Fassbender, which Federation executive produced alongside George Clooney and is co-distributing internationally with Paramount Global Content Distribution.
Federation Studios previously sold Eric Rochant’s smash hit spy series “Le Bureau des Legendes” widely, but retained the IP, allowing the outfit to make a lucrative deal with Paramount for the remake and remain in the picture as co-distributor and executive producer.
A disruptor at heart, Breton was vying for a career in academics after getting a PhD in political science with a prophetic thesis about how television has changed the rules of political life.

Hit drama series “Rivals,” which debuted to great fanfare on Hulu and Disney+, follows the fortunes of genteel television boss Lord Tony Baddingham (played by David Tennant) as he fights to preserve his independent commercial television station Corinium.
It’s a drama that ITV boss, Dame Carolyn McCall, may well be watching closely. McCall, who has presided over the U.K.’s biggest commercial public service broadcaster (Psb) since 2018, is reportedly weighing up selling the media conglomerate, either in its entirety or piecemeal. The latter would see her spin off production arm ITV Studios — whose hits include, amongst other fare, “Rivals” – to the highest bidder.
Over the weekend, a well-sourced Sky News report suggested that McCall is open to entertaining bids, with a number of potential suitors holding “early-stage discussions” about throwing their hat in the ring. According to the report, these include Cvc Capital Partners and a European broadcaster...

Jessica Jones first premiered on Netflix on November 20, 2015, and quickly became popular. The first season earned a lot of praise, especially for Krysten Ritter’s portrayal of Jessica and David Tennant’s role as Kilgrave. The show’s dark themes and its focus on topics like trauma and abuse were also well-received.
Recently, Carrie-Anne Moss, who played Jeri Hogarth in Jessica Jones and other Marvel Netflix shows, shared her interest in returning to the role. In an interview, Moss said, “I loved playing her, one of my favorite roles I’ve ever played. I would, of course, love to play her again.“
Hogarth, a tough and determined lawyer, appeared in Jessica Jones as well as Daredevil, Iron Fist, and The Defenders.
Despite her interest, Moss admitted she’s unsure if the character will return, saying, “I don’t see that. I’m pretty intuitive. I don’t feel that coming my way.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “Rivals,” now streaming on Hulu/Disney+.
British author Jilly Cooper is synonymous with sex. In the U.K., the 87-year-old has long reigned as the queen of “bonkbusters” (aka romance novels), with titles like “Riders” and “Tackle” usually accompanied by saucy jacket covers (one edition of “Riders” features a woman in tight-fitting horse-riding pants with a man’s hand placed provocatively on her posterior.)
“She’s a writer with a reputation within the United Kingdom,” says Felicity Blunt, Cooper’s longtime literary agent at Curtis Brown (part of UTA). “But I would say you should never judge a book by a cover.”
That much is evident in an expensive and expansive new TV adaptation of one of her most famous books, “Rivals,” which took the U.K. by storm when it was released on Disney+ last month and is now catching on in the U.

A couple weeks back, fans of the Prime Video show Good Omens — about an unlikely friendship between the angle Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant) — got some bad news: no longer would the show's third and final season be...well, a season of TV. Instead, it will be one 90-minute episode that will wrap up all the stories the second season left dangling, most notably what will become of Aziraphale and Crowley now that they've parted ways, with Aziraphale returning to heaven to help plan the Second Coming and Crowley getting as far away from all that mess as he possibly can.
Fans have grown very attached to Aziraphale and Crowley, and many were upset with the news. The season is being cut down almost certainly because of a series of sexual assault allegations made against Neil Gaiman, who not only co-wrote the original Good Omens book...

Gregor Fisher and Greg McHugh star in Scottish sitcom Only Child, and the BBC has released a first trailer. More here.
Gregor Fisher will always be inextracably intertwined with Rab C. Nesbitt, the permanently plastered Glaswegian festering in squalor alongside long suffering wife Mary Doll, played by Elaine C. Smith. The show became so popular that writer Ian Pattison adapted it into a stage show, and stars like Sylvester McCoy, Stanley Baxter and Richard E. Grant appeared in the show. Series 3 episode Touch features a very early television appearance by David Tennant, who guest stars as barmaid Davina.
As we approach the festive season, Fisher also features in arguably the sweetest story in Richard Curtis’ Love Actually, about the friendship between his character Joe and Bill Nighy’s rock star Billy Mack.
Now though? Gregor Fisher is returning to the small screen for sitcom Only Child.

I did wonder how well Good Omens would translate from book to screen. Well, it worked, and now we’re ready to see how it all comes to an end. Well, sort of. We’re not “ready” ready, but it does need an ending.
This is one of those series that can’t be duplicated. There isn’t anything else out there that matches the energy, but there are a fair few shows that come somewhat close. It all depends on the elements you want to gain from Good Omens in other works.
Here are six shows worth watching.

Matt Smith may currently be well-known for his portrayal of Daemon Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, but viewers will forever see him as synonymous with his portrayal of the Doctor on Doctor Who.
Smith portrayed the Eleventh Doctor for three seasons, making just shy of 50 episodes. Alongside David Tennant, his seasons are widely regarded as the golden age of the 'New Who' era of the franchise. Fans are always campaigning for his triumphant return, although Smith himself isn't too interested in reprising his beloved role just yet.
Of course, Smith would go on to grow his illustrious filmography. Notably, he played the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, in Netflix's The Crown. Other big roles include Last Night in Soho and a Marvel debut in Morbius. However, outside of Doctor Who, his biggest role by far is playing Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon.

David Tennant is a British actor known for appearing in stuff like Doctor Who, Good Omens and the Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling is the author of the Harry Potter who's become best known in recent years for her anti-trans rhetoric. They're in a feud!
Kind of. The dust-up started earlier this year when Tennant accepted a Celebrity Ally award at the British LGBT Awards. During his acceptance speech, Tennant took aim at U.K. Minister for Women and Equalities Kemi Badenoch, who "has said she would exclude trans women from single sex spaces," per Variety. “I suppose if I’m honest I’m a little depressed by the fact that acknowledging that everyone has the right to be who they want to be and live their life how they want to live it as long as they’re not hurting anyone else should merit any kind of special or award...

To say the relationships at the center of Rivals, the Hulu adaptation of Dame Jilly Cooper’s book, are messy would be an understatement. But that’s what makes it—and the novel—so good. There are quite a few changes from the pages to the screen, notably in Tony (David Tennant) and Cameron’s (Nafessa Williams) relationship and how that ends—is he dead?!—while others are exactly what we pictured, like Rupert (Alex Hassell) and Taggie’s (Bella Maclean) meeting. And with the first season (the show has yet to be renewed) not covering the entire book, there’s plenty to explore should it continue. TV Insider decided to get the author’s take on the relationships from her mind depicted on screen. There are quite a few changes from the book. Which ones excited you the most to see explored on the ...

Kemi Badenoch has become the UK Conservative Party leader, beating her colleague Robert Jenrick in the final vote, to become the first Black leader of a British national political party.
Badenoch previously engaged in a social media war of words with Doctor Who star David Tennant. She said she “wasn’t afraid of Doctor Who” after the pair clashed on trans rights.
Badenoch won by more than 10,000 votes from a total poll of more than 130,000. Party members across the country voted in the contest, which followed the Tory party defeat in the UK general election this summer, after which defeated prime minister Rishi Sunak said he would stand down.
Conservative Party chairman Richard Fuller introduced the conference to announce the result in London 11am Saturday morning. He stressed that the party, currently in opposition, must unite in addressing the country’s needs. 1922 committee chairman Bob Blackman then announced the winner of the leadership campaign.

There’s a new series about the foibles of a wealthy group of neighbors who share cocktails, secrets, and lovers to hilarious and sometimes devastating effect. (And Nicole Kidman isn’t starring in it!) “Rivals” premiered on Hulu October 18, and its combination of ’80s go-go excess and English countryside life is a potent mix. And what befits these horny buggers more than houses befitting their varying stations in life?
Based on Dame Jilly Cooper’s novel in her Rutshire Chronicles, “Rivals” filmed its fictional community on location across Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, using private homes for the exteriors (and some interiors) of its characters’ estates. And in production designer Dominic Hyman, “Rivals” (created by Dominic Treadwell-Collins) found the ideal architect for its home unsweet homes. “It was a world that I completely understood,” Hyman told IndieWire. “I was in my late teens in 1986, ’87, and I kind of dipped in and out...

It's been confirmed that Nick Frost (Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy) will be in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, voicing a droid that the four kid main characters find. Named Sm-33, this droid is very much evoking the pirate vibe that's been a big part of the promotional material so far. But is that the only character that Frost is playing?
While promoting his newest horror film, Get Away, Frost spoke in a long interview with The Hollywood Reporter about his career. Of course, Skeleton Crew came up where he said something of note. Frost said:
I got a message from Jon Favreau to say just, ‘because you’re a robot doesn’t mean that you can’t appear somewhere as yourself.'Nick Frost Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Sm-33 voiced by Nick Frost. Image Credit: StarWars.com | starwars.com

The show may be called "The Boys," but it proves time and time again that girls do get it done. Eric Kripke's superhero satire, adapted from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's even more controversial comic series, has a feminist bent and a recurring theme of its female characters asserting agency. Starlight/Annie January (Erin Moriarty) is the greatest example, with her literally becoming a progressive icon and thoughtful leader in-universe.
As part of the series' critique of corporate America, though, it does not celebrate rainbow capitalism (i.e. putting individuals from marginalized groups at the top of institutions doing the marginalizing). Girlboss characters are never celebrated on "The Boys," from soulless exec Madelyn Stillwell (Elisabeth Shue), to serpentine politician Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), to Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie) — a PR flack in way over her head as Homelander's (Antony Starr) lackey.
Minifie's performance as Ashley is especially impressive,...
