I am starting to question if Lionsgate has an under-the-table deal with Kleenex because, after watching the studio’s Wish You Were Here trailer, I think this movie will make people cry. And not just a little; I’m talking about Niagara Falls, Frankie. Niagara Falls. Wish You Were Here offers an intimate look at Julia Stiles‘s feature directorial debut. In February, the Golden Globe-nominated actress-turned-filmmaker told Deadline she’s “been looking for years for the right story to tell” as a director, and she’s finally found it with an adaptation of Renee Carlino’s best-selling novel of the same name.
Here’s the official synopsis for Wish You Were Here courtesy of Lionsgate:
“Julia Stiles makes her directorial debut in a brilliantly warm and romantic film based on the bestselling novel, Wish You Were Here. Isabelle Fuhrman, Mena Massoud, Jennifer Grey and Kelsey Grammer star in a...

David Gilmour was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night (November 7th), where the legendary Pink Floyd singer-guitarist was asked by the late-night host about the long-running theory involving the album The Dark Side of the Moon and the movie The Wizard of Oz.
Thanks to the “Dark Side of the Rainbow” theory first widely publicized in a 1995 article by Charles Savage in the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, it is believed that if you start Dark Side of the Moon at the exact moment the MGM lion roars at the beginning of The Wizard of Oz, the music syncs nearly perfectly with the scenes in the classic film.

All it takes is one guitar note piercing through a pitch-black arena — one note dramatically reaching heavenward, as if it’s waking up — to recognize the guitarist. As soon as David Gilmour struck the introductory high E of “5 A.M.,” with only a soft red light and some even softer synths accompanying him, the packed audience at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Monday cheered. The lights slowly faded in, Gilmour’s famous slouch came into focus, and all of the weepy notes he could coax from his...

A simple acquisition can have a whole lot of narrative or let’s just say a darker narrative behind it. While it’s not uncommon for huge multimedia corporations to buy catalogs of legendary bands at staggering sums. Exclusive: Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins (Freud’s Last Session) has signed on to star in Bruno Penguin and the Staten Island Princess, the latest film from director Nick Cassavetes. Billed as the first-ever major Hollywood production to shoot in Antarctica, the film also has Shia Labeouf (Padre Pio) in talks to star and will enter production in November.
Scripted by Daniel Barnz and Ned Zeman, Bruno Penguin is based on a Vanity Fair article from the latter which tells the true story of adventurous Swiss photographer Bruno Zehnder, a superb artist who spent the last 20 years of his life in Antarctica photographing Emperor penguins. He was obsessed by them – their kindness, the way they lived, their deep levels of affection for one another. Bruno spent his life trying to learn how to communicate with them and over time, the colonies grew to know him and return his fondness.

David Gilmour announced the first dates of his Luck and Strange tour last week, but he told Uncut that it’s going to be a very different tour from his previous ones because of an “unwillingness to revisit the Pink Floyd of the Seventies.” He went on to explain that he was willing to play Floyd songs from the Syd Barrett period of the Sixties, and his own era fronting the group in the late Eighties and early Nineties.

When Brandon Boyd thinks back on the spring of 2001, he’s amazed he wasn’t more stressed out. His band, Incubus, had just broken through with 1999’s Make Yourself, and their hit “Drive” was climbing the charts. “In retrospect, we probably should have felt more pressure to make a great follow-up record because we have this hit single right now,” Boyd, 47, tells Rolling Stone. “That didn’t even enter our minds. We were just like, ‘This is crazy! A lot of people are listening to our songs right now. Let’s make another one!

British director and screenwriter who enjoyed huge success with his 1987 hit film Wish You Were Here
Grittiness and compassion were the twin hallmarks of the writer and director David Leland, who has died aged 82. He scripted a clutch of uncompromising films that launched the screen careers of Cathy Tyson, Emily Lloyd and Tim Roth. Leland’s writing was distinctly British in flavour but without the parochial sensibility that might have limited its appeal.
His early draft of Mona Lisa (1986), an underworld thriller about the relationship between a sex worker (Tyson) and her driver (Bob Hoskins), was tougher and nastier than the finished film. Leland shared the screenplay credit with its Irish director, Neil Jordan.

From Wish You Were Here to Mona Lisa and The Big Man, he was determined to shine a light on those marginalised in society albeit using his quirky sense of humour
David Leland was a master of understatement with a social conscience and wildly wicked sense of humour, arising like his friends the Pythons from our everyday humdrum British universe in the 60s and 70s.
More than 40 years ago I saw the astonishing Made in Britain. The film that made Tim Roth – who played a violent skinhead – a star, was written by Leland for the producer and director Alan Clarke. It was a a biting attack on rightwing Thatcherite policies and it is just as relevant to today’s brutal system.

Although there hasn’t been any official word put out, British psychedelic rock band ‘Pink Floyd’ have been shopping their recorded-music catalogue and other assets for several months, seeking as much as 500 million, according to the Financial Times, with both major music companies and investment firms as the top bidders.

Pink Floyd have reunited for a one-off charity single to raise money for Ukrainians affected by Russia’s invasion. “Hey, Hey, Rise Up” features vocals by Andriy Khlyvnyuk of the Ukrainian band, Boombox, who recorded himself in full military gear singing the folk song, “The Red Viburnum in the Meadow,” to the empty streets in Kyiv’s Sofiyskaya Square.
David Gilmour was so moved by the performance that he called Nick Mason, bassist Guy Pratt, and keyboardist Nitin Sawhney and organized a recording session last Wednesday that featured video of Khlyvnyuk projected on the wall.

“Forget money, I’m focused on dignity and loyalty.” Those were the disturbing words spoken the other day by my favorite agent who, alas, is facing the prospect of going out of business.
Fortunately, the agent in question is French and fictional; she works for Ask and is portrayed in Call My Agent!, the hit show that began its fourth and final season on Netflix this week. Talent agents and their entourages have pitched and connived their way on TV before, but the French show has found a binge following, even among Hollywood’s besieged tenpercenters, as Variety used to call them.
Faced with strikes and streamers, the agenting community has had to make some bold moves, redefining corporate goals and expanding job descriptions. Agents are now even repping politicians and their causes as well as actors.

The more emotion-driven a TV series or movie, the more important the soundtrack. And boy is Normal People, the Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney’s wildly popular novel of the same name, driven by the emotion of its characters and world.
Normal People follows Marianne and Connell’s complicated relationship as they move from being teenagers at a small town in western Ireland into young adulthood at Dublin’s Trinity College, and showrunner Ed Guiney, directors Lenny Abrahamson and Hettie Macdonald, music supervisors Juliet Martin and Maggie Phillips, and editor Nathan Nugent have done an impressive job crafting the music landscape for this world.
“We were trying all sorts of tracks ourselves,” said Abrahamson, who mentioned Martin, Phillips, Nugent, and himself as the chief collaborators in the process. “So, as well as the work that Stephen Rennicks, the composer, was doing, it was just, again, a very organic kind of collaboration.
