  CIA Operator : Cornerback?

  Jack Ryan : Uh, the Grushnitsky Hotel, Moscow.

  [Jack otices a call from Cathty on his phone] 

  Jack Ryan : Oh, no.

  CIA Operator : 15 to minutes. Maintain the room. Wait for two rings, then exit. Go quiet until 21:30 local and surface at location Gamma.

  Jack Ryan : I, uh...

  CIA Operator : Contact bench at the base of the stairs.

  Jack Ryan : I don't remember where that is.

  CIA Operator : Confirm.

  Jack Ryan : I heard you, I just don't remember the address, okay? I'm just analyst. I only did three weeks at the farm.

  CIA Operator : You're breaking protocol, Cornerback.

  Jack Ryan : I'm out of my goddamn element, is what I am. I just need the address.

  CIA Operator : Go back to your room and stay there until the phone rings twice. Then leave quickly and quietly. Keep out of sight until 9:30 local time. Then go Staraya Square, the steps.

  Jack Ryan : Okay.

  CIA Operator : Your contact will be on the bench. Cornerback?

  Jack Ryan : Yeah.

  CIA Operator : You're a Marine. It's the reason you're still alive right now. Remeber your tradecraft and you'll be fine.

  Jack Ryan : Thank you.

  CIA Operator : Time's up.

• Jack Ryan : [Jack receives a call from Cathy]  Hey, I was just about to call you.

  Cathy Muller : [on the phone]  Hey.

  Jack Ryan : Yeah, I only landed a couple hours ago, so, uh...

  Cathy Muller : [on the phone]  Oh, good. I'm not trying to hassle you. I just... I just wanted to make sure the trip was okay.

  Jack Ryan : Yeah. Yeah, it was, you know, uneventful.

  Cathy Muller : [Chuckles]  Well, that's the best kind.

  [Jack continues walking] 

  Cathy Muller : So, what are you doing now?

  Jack Ryan : I, uh, just left the Hotel. Gonna... Got to go meet a colleague

  Cathy Muller : Anybody interesting?

  Jack Ryan : I don't think you know him. What are you up to?

  Cathy Muller : Well, I was just on call for a 48 but Saidelman says that he can cover me for the weekend.

  [Jack looks suspiciously at a bus] 

  Cathy Muller : So I thought, If I got on a plane tonight, I could be in Paris in the morning. You think you could get away early?

  Jack Ryan : Uh...

  Cathy Muller : Hello?

  Jack Ryan : Yeah, you know, I um... I don't think so Cath. I think I'm gonna be tied up longer than I though. I'm not uh...

  [appears people laughing and chatting] 

  Jack Ryan : I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to make it there at all.

  [laughing continues] 

  Cathy Muller : Well, it sounds like you're having fun.

  Jack Ryan : [Jack continues walking]  Look, sweetheart, I'm, uh... I'm late and I'm tired, I'm pretty jetlaged. Can I give you a call in the morning, my time?

  Cathy Muller : Okay.

  Jack Ryan : [Jack starts breathing nervously]  I love you desperately. You know that, don't you?

  Cathy Muller : Yep.

  Jack Ryan : Don't lose faith in me.

  Cathy Muller : Okay.

  [Jack hangs up the phone]
