Back in March, we heard that production had wrapped on the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, which is coming our way from the team of producer / genre regular James Wan and director Osgood Perkins, whose credits include The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, Gretel & Hansel, and the recent Nicolas Cage horror film Longlegs (you can read our review Here). Longlegs was released by Neon – and they’ll also be giving The Monkey a theatrical release on February 21, 2025. We’ve seen a teaser trailer for the movie before (you can watch it in the embed above), but now it has been revealed that a full trailer will be dropping this Wednesday – and ahead of that, Neon has shared the Motion Picture Association ratings board’s report on the trailer! 2024 is over, and while it was a relatively good year for Max and its subscribers because of all the marvellous content we got. In my opinion, it is nothing compared to what Max has in store for us for 2025, as some of the most highly-anticipated Max original shows will be premiering this year. So, let’s find out which of your favourite Max original shows or some incredible new shows are coming to Max in 2025.

The Pitt (January 9) Credit – Max

The Pitt is an upcoming medical drama series created by R. Scott Gemmill. The Max series is set in the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital, and it follows the medical staff during their 15-hour emergency room shift. The Pitt stars Noah Wyle, Tracy Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, and Katherine Lanasa.

With a new year comes a fresh slate of HBO shows, from long-anticipated returning favorites like “The White Lotus” and “The Last of Us” to new series, from Noah Wyle’s next medical drama to Rachel Sennott’s comedy show.

At the beginning of 2025, HBO will debut “The Pitt,” which centers on a Pittsburgh hospital, while Mike White’s anthology series returns with a new group of tourists in Thailand and one familiar face with “The White Lotus” Season 3. The rest of the year is jam-packed with highly anticipated series, including “The Last of Us” Season 2, “It: Welcome to Derry,” “Game of Thrones” spinoff series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” “Peacemaker” Season 2 and “Hacks” Season 4, among many others.

One notable series that won’t make it to HBO in 2025 is “Euphoria” Season 3, which is now slated for a 2026 release after delays pushed production to begin in January 2025.

2025: It’s going to be a year, alright.

We don’t know all that the next 12 months have in store for us, but on the television front, things are looking up. This year will find big show returns like more “Poker Face,” “Andor,” and “The White Lotus”; not to mention the fourth and final season of “The Bear” and the long, long-awaited return of “Severance” on Apple TV+. But there’s plenty of new stuff to get excited about as well (five words: Michelle Williams Back on TV.)

At Friday’s Palm Springs International Film Awards, pop star Ariana Grande showed off her comedy skills. For her role as Glinda in the much-anticipated film version of “Wicked,” she won the “Rising Star” Award.

Grande, who is 31 years old, made fun of being called a “rising star” at this point in her career. During her acceptance speech at the Palm Springs Convention Center, she joked, “I’ve been performing since I was a child, so I never thought at age 31 I’d be hearing the words ‘Rising Star’ again.” She said, “I want to thank my good friends Botox and Juvederm.” I thought I would hear “Slightly Withering Star” or “Drooping Star” by now.”

The night had extra charm when Emmy Award winner Jennifer Coolidge appeared out of the blue. The award was given to Grande by Coolidge, who is well-known for her role in “The White Lotus,” her tone was lighthearted.

Dakota Fanning is spending some time with producer David Bernard and this isn’t the first time they’ve been spotted together.

The 30-year-old actress was seen on a coffee run along Melrose Place with David on Thursday afternoon (January 2) in Los Angeles.

Dakota and David were previously spotted going for a hike together back in April 2023.

David is a producer who has worked on HBO shows like The White Lotus and White House Plumbers, as well as movies such as Uncharted and Immaculate. He also worked on TV comedies like Jury Duty, Superstore, and The Bold Type. He’s been nominated for three Emmy Awards and won one for The White Lotus.

Dakota is currently preparing to work on a new project with her younger sister Elle Fanning.

As the industry was rocked last year by layoffs, budget cuts, runaway production, a decline in volume and an overall malaise, one mantra kept popping up: “Survive ‘til ’25!” It was a bit of a hopeful rhyme, as Hollywood looked for some light at the end of this turbulent tunnel.

Well, 2025 is here. And there indeed are some hopeful signs in the air: The broadcast networks are coming off a promising fall, boasting several new breakout performers. A bevy of hit shows are finally returning to our screens with new seasons after a long delay — more on that in a moment. The post-Hollywood strikes shakeout seems to be stabilizing. And there’s a sense that maybe we’ve seen the worst of things — after all, how much more can the industry cut without hitting bone?

Maybe don’t answer that. Because let’s face it, “Survive ‘til ‘25” was always a bit too optimistic.

Last March, it was announced that Jessica Biel was set to star in and executive produce a limited series adaptation of Karin Slaughter’s New York Times best-selling novel The Good Daughter for the Peacock streaming service. Things have changed since that announcement was made, as Variety reports that Biel is no longer involved with The Good Daughter and the character she was going to be playing is now set to be played by Meghann Fahy of The White Lotus, The Perfect Couple, and The Bold Type. Rose Byrne has also joined the cast, and will be serving as an executive producer on the series.

2024 felt like a rebuilding year for television, as contraction across Hollywood and delays from the historic Hollywood strikes wreaked havoc on programming schedules across the board. But we still got some standout series, including the return of “House of the Dragon,” Netflix’s surprise breakout “Baby Reindeer” and more.

But 2025 brings with it a more stable slate for all the biggest power players across streaming, broadcast and cable, one that aims to appeal to wider audiences and grapple with the new economic realities of the entertainment industry. TV lovers can expect big productions though, including long-anticipated returns for shows like Apple TV+’s “Severance,” HBO’s “The White Lotus” and Netflix’s “Stranger Things” and “Wednesday.” Established IP will also get its fair share of spinoffs, including the “Game of Thrones” side quest “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” NBC’s “Suits LA” and Marvel’s anticipated “Daredevil: Born Again” quasi-revival on Disney+.

Although Jennifer Coolidge‘s Tanya McQuoid has checked out of The White Lotus, another familiar face is back for Season 3 of the HBO series.

Natasha Rothwell recently discussed her return with “main character energy” as spa manager Belinda Lindsey for the upcoming season, which premieres Feb. 16, after previously appearing in the Hawaii-based Season 1 of Mike White‘s Emmy and Golden Globe-winning anthology series.

“She’s still working at the White Lotus, and she’s in Thailand doing sort of an exchange program to learn more about the wellness programs that the Thailand White Lotus offers,” she explained to Entertainment Weekly. “She’s going to be a guest for the first time, even though she’s taking classes and it’s a work trip. She’s staying at the hotel, which is something that she hasn’t done before, and so we get to see her really dip her toe in...

As 2025 kicks off, several book to movie adaptations can be expected to move forward to completion, some with release dates already slated for the quarter century marker.

Audiences looking forward to the fourth Bridget Jones film can anticipate streaming it on Peacock on Valentine’s Day in 2025. Other big name films based on books coming to theaters this year include Mickey17, directed by Bong Joon Ho, Edgar Wright’s The Running Man and Josh Boone’s Regretting You, which will likely follow in the footsteps of the Blake Lively-starring It Ends With Us and further pave a path for future Collen Hoover film adaptations like Verity and Reminders of Him.

The nearly four-minute clip finds a woman awakened from a sound sleep, convinced someone’s inside her house. Peacock has lined up the two leads for its limited series The Good Daughter.

Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy will lead the drama, which is based on a novel by Karin Slaughter (who is also writing every episode of the series). Byrne will also be an executive producer.

The Good Daughter scored a straight-to-series order at Peacock in March, with Jessica Biel attached to star. Biel departed the project in September; Fahy is taking on the role Biel had been set to play.

The series centers on two sisters, Charlotte (Byrne) and Samantha (Fahy) Quinn, who have spent the last 28 years trying to piece together the lives that were fractured by a single night of violence. When another attack splinters the small town of Pikeville, Charlotte is the first witness on the scene. A lawyer like her father, she’s forced to confront her own demons as the case twists through shocking revelations,...

Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy will star in “The Good Daughter,” Peacock’s upcoming limited series series based on the Karin Slaughter novel of the same name. Byrne also serves as executive producer.

The official logline reads, “‘The Good Daughter’ is a suspenseful crime drama where sisters Charlotte (Meghann Fahy) and Samantha (Rose Byrne) Quinn have spent the last 28 years trying to piece together the lives that were fractured by a single night of violence. When another attack splinters the small town of Pikeville, Charlotte is the first witness on the scene. Now a lawyer like her father, she’s forced to confront her own demons as the case twists through one shocking revelation after another. In the end, both she and Samantha find themselves wondering if the price of being the good daughter was worth it after all.”

Charlotte was originally set to be played by Jessica Biel, who later departed the project.

The Peacock limited series The Good Daughter has cast Rose Byrne and Meghann Fahy as the lead characters, sisters Samantha and Charlotte Quinn, respectively. Additionally, Byrne will executive produce.

Fahy is taking on the role Jessica Biel was originally set to play following Biel’s exit from the project as star and executive producer, which Deadline revealed exclusively in September.

Based on Karin Slaughter’s bestselling novel of the same name, The Good Daughter was picked up straight-to-series by the NBCU streaming service in March, with Slaughter writing all episodes and executive producing the project from Fifth Season and Bruna Papandrea‘s Made Up Stories.

The White Lotus is on its way back into the spotlight behind a brand-new cast of wild characters for Season 3 on Max.

Initially developed as a limited series, The White Lotus is now on its way to its third season, this year taking place in Thailand after being set in Hawaii and Sicily. The show highlights the titular chain of worldwide hotels, although both previous seasons are filled with drama, chaos, and plenty of death.

As confirmed by the recently released first trailer, Season 3 is now set for a February 16 debut on Max to kick off 2025. Being an anthology series, the new season will also bring a wholly new ensemble of characters unaware of the danger and mayhem they are about to see on their vacation.

The first installment, which premiered July 2021 and was set in Hawaii, was nominated for 20 Emmy Awards and won a leading 10, including for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Season 2, set in Sicily, debuted October 30, 2022 and won five Emmys, including a repeat for Jennifer Coolidge.

Netflix has ordered up horror drama series “Something Very Bad is Going to Happen” from producers The Duffer Brothers (“Stranger Things”). Today, Deadline reports that the series has found its stars and enlisted “Baby Reindeer” director Weronika Tofilska to helm four episodes.

Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six, Death Wish) and Adam Dimarco are set to star in the Haley Z. Boston-created horror drama.

Haley Z. Boston serves as series showrunner and executive producer. Boston is no stranger to horror, either, having previously written for Netflix’s “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities “and “Brand New Cherry Flavor.“ That alone bodes well for a series described as “atmospheric horror.
