NBC has picked up drama pilot The Irrational, starring Jesse L. Martin, to series.

The Irrational, from Arika Lisanne Mittman, was ordered to pilot in February and signs were looking good for a series order. As Deadline previously reported, a mini writers room was set up in the fall to produce a couple of backup scripts, and cast options, which had been set to expire in October, were extended through the end of this month.

Written by Mittman, The Irrational is based on Dan Ariely’s bestselling novel Predictably Irrational. The show follows Alec Baker (Martin), a world-renowned professor of behavioral science who lends his expertise to an array of high-stakes cases involving governments, law enforcement and corporations with his unique and unexpected approach to understanding human behavior.

Maahra Hill, Travina Springer, Molly Kunz and Arash DeMaxi also star.

Martin also is producing the pilot.

NBC is getting close to making decisions on its remaining three off-cycle pilots.

Drama The Irrational starring Jesse L. Martin is putting together a mini-room to produce a couple of backup scripts ordered by the network, I have learned. It is a good sign for the project as I hear the pilot was well received internally, with Martin, a bona fide NBC star from his Law & Order days, getting high marks. I hear the option on the cast are up in late October, so a pickup decision is expected by then.

The Untitled Mike Daniels drama, aka Adam and Eva, is on less solid footing. I hear there has been an effort to rethink the romantic comedy as a modestly budgeted series for summer. While the show’s prospects were not looking good recently, I hear an effort to figure out financials is ongoing, with final decision expected by end of the month.

Comedy is back on NBC’s fall schedule with an hourlong Friday block — comprised by Dwayne Johnson’s Young Rock and new George Lopez series Lopez vs. Lopez — but The Blacklist is not, put on the bench until midseason only for the second time in its 10-season run. As expected, the Quantum Leap reboot, starring Raymond Lee, landed the post-Voice Monday slot while La Brea is back in the Tuesday 9 Pm slot where it launched with a bang last fall.

NBC revealed its fall 2022-2023 lineup Monday, which includes “La Brea” occupying the current Tuesdays at 9 p.m. home of “This Is Us,” as well as the “Quantum Leap” reboot series taking the coveted post-“The Voice” launchpad. On a season that includes new coach Camila Cabello, that’s an even nicer slot to occupy as the broadcast network’s splashy new drama.

Mondays in the fall will begin with the two-hour episode of “The Voice” at 8 p.m., followed by “Quantum Leap” as its lead-out at 10.

On Tuesdays, “The Voice” will kickoff the night with its one-hour edition at 8 p.m., leading into “La Brea” at 9. NBC is giving a prime primetime slot to its “Quantum Leap” reboot.

The sci-fi drama, which stars Raymond Lee as Dr. Ben Seong, will air Monday nights at 10 p.m. Et/Pt after “The Voice,” offering an important lead-in for the freshman show. “The Voice,” which airs 8-10 p.m. Et/Pt on Mondays, will see a new coach this fall – former “X Factor” contestant-turned-music superstar Camila Cabello. For the new season – the show’s 22nd – she’ll join a returning Gwen Stefani as well as Blake Shelton and John Legend in the coaches chairs.

Tuesdays bring another episode of “The Voice” at 8 p.m. followed by the return of “La Brea” at 9 p.m. “New Amsterdam,” which is heading into its final season, will air at 10 p.m.

Dick Wolf’s “One Chicago” block continues Wednesday nights, with “Med,” “Fire” and “P.D.” returning in their 8, 9 and 10 p.m.

As Deadline reported in the Early Pilot Buzz story earlier this week, Quantum Leap appeared a lock for a series pickup with Lee poised to potentially become one of the breakout stars of next season. It is NBC’s only 2022 drama pilot that was in consideration for the fall schedule; two others Unbroken and Blank Slate, would be evaluated for a launch in November or midseason. Unbroken is headline by Scott Bakula, star of the original Quantum Leap, who is no involved in the reboot.
